I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this (I may have missed it somewhere and apologize if it is there), but why do Sony discs have a load time of a minute or two, but discs from many other studios start up almost immediately?

BD-J titles typically take longer than ones without java as it has to load the whole java client each time the movie is started.
That said, after that it's dependant on the player. For instance, the much-vaulted PS3 never takes more than 15-20 seconds for any movie I've put in, and that's a very conservative estimate. I anticipate as manufacturing costs for the players gets cheaper they'll be able to increase the horsepower on the players and make them more efficient at loading movies. 1-2 minutes is really ridiculous and I'd never be able to put up with that. |

I know a lot of people don't like using the PS3 as a player, but when I switched from my Sony standalone player to the PS3 the load times were a WORLD of difference. Much faster presumably thanks to the CELL processor.
Ratatouille was a really slow title for me too. Much faster on the PS3. |

Most of the recent Sony releases have heavy BD-Java and BD-Live implementations. Men In Black is a good example of this phenomena. With all the major studios pushing this further and further, load times will continue to be long until the hardware manufacturers get a grip on it.

I have several SONY Bluray players in my home, It seems the less expensive models have the longest load times. By far the PS3 is the fastest. I have 100+ blu-ray discs and not one takes more than 20 seconds. The least expensive of my players SONY 300 series model is insane as to how long it takes (Guest Bedroom). The PS3 has multiple processors that no doubt help out the process.

I have a samsung bd-p1400 and sure the load times on some movies take sometime, but the truth is iam just happy the movies play.
If the long loading is the only problem i have then iam very grateful.Especially after reading all the problem some people are having with there players.I feel very, very lucky ![]() |

Recent Player have a shorter load time... for heavy title From TRAY to 1fr Picture the PS3 is about 30sec (Heavy Java) while the BD30 fo example can be about 50 for the same.
Older players took minutes to load and still does. PS3 is a computer, that's why it load faster and mostly always will |
