Default Yamaha RX-V863

Proud new owner, cant wait to hook er up and start enjoying the HD Audio formats, not to mention the 20 extra watts of power over my current receiver. Anybody with this unit care to comment on their experience with it. Thanx.

Sound & Vision reviewed the 863 & gave it high marks.. The review is probably on their site.

Alaskankaijudude,

I've had the 863 since June and really like the sound. Took some time to adjust coming from an Onkyo 504. The Yammy is much cleaner sounding than what I was used to. The new HD audio formats sound amazing through this AVR (at least to my ears). Crisper, cleaner and louder than the older surround formats.

How did the YPAO setup work for you? Maybe a dumb question but does it matter where the initial volume is set before starting the YPAO? Also it says to set your Subwoofers volume at about halfway and the crossover to maximum. Do you leave the crossover set to maximum after it has calibrated the speakers? My crossover after YPAO setup was the max 200 HZ. Does that sound right? I realize it did this because all other speakers were set to small but just seems extreme to me. Thanx for any info anybody can provide.

I assure you my friend, Yamaha will be very good to you for years to come.

I have THREE and all of them deliver quality and are built touhg enough to defend your home with.

You can rest at ease knowing that you can most surely kill a man with your new receiver and STILL enjoy quality audio.

They are THAT rugged.

ps - don't ask and questions

Most Yamaha receivers are made with the remains of former Onkyo employees.

*Also, if you have a Harmony remote, you may have seen the Chinese knockoff "Yamada".

Brother,
I just purchased a Rx-v3800.Yamaha puts out quality receivers.i got to sample a couple of recievers before grabbing the one i have and iam very happy with the choice i made.

Alaskankaijudude,You have an awesome receiver.Congratulations with your purchase.I know you won't be disappointed.

Trust me any one that makes little jokes about yamaha are just jealous they didn't make that decision for them self and there stuck with what they have for now

I ran YPAO 3 different times (mic placed differently each time) and just wasn't happy with the results. That's not to say that it won't work for you, I just thought a manual setup sounded better to my ears.

Yes, leave sub crossover maxed out and let the Yammy send the lows on down to it.

My crossover is set to 80 hz on the 863. YPAO set it to 120 initially, but when I set it manually I went with 80 since my speaker's manual suggests a 75 hz setting.

Check the speaker's manual, leave the sub maxed for its crossover and set Yammy crossover to manual's suggested setting (or closest possible).

Hmmm, I never even checked. Not sure that it matters since the receiver is sending/analyzing the sound bursts.

I really don't think that matters what the volumes at(can't find anything in the manual?).

The mic screwed up the distance for my sub as well It made it 27 feet(holy crap ). I just change it and upped the level for the sub.

I pretty much did everything manually. For me the mic just gave me a basic idea of what i wanted.

I was frustrated with the mic after 4 reads they were all different.
There was a moment that i wanted to throw that mic out of the window,But after a couple deep breathes i just sat down and played with manual set up until i was happy.

And today i care share i am happy with my setup and the reciever sounds awesome

How can they market this receiver as 105w X 7, when it can only drive 1 channel at 77w?

I don't understand that as well. What recievers say they put out and what they really can do is always lower.
Maybe someone can explain that to us?

My yamaha RX-V3800 says 7x140.I read on a site that collectively they can only put out 88 watts(with all the speakers rockin)

Now i don't know if this is true,But it stirs up Questions?

I was thinking of getting the Onkyo TX-SR805 for my next reciever, but this new Yamaha RX-V863 seems like it is also a pretty good one. Comparing the two, which would you guys recommend?

805 hands down. I compared the 805 to the RX-V1800 for quite a while before I bought and the 805 was the way to go for me.
