Quick question about getting the best sound...Do certain brands or models of receivers affect the sound quality better than other similar receivers based on the quality of speaker?
For insance: I have Infinite speakers in a 7.1 setup, and I was told that a Yamaha receiver would do a better job than a Pioneer, mostly because my speakers are higher quality and I would be able to notice a difference with the Yamaha that i wouldn't hear with the Pioneer. Thoughts? |

I too, want to hear about this - especially since I plan on pairing Yamaha with Bowers & Wilkins. Should I go with a Denon instead? Onkyo? Good question, Blackshirt.
Although Pioneer Elites are top of the line receivers... Last edited by JJ; 08-21-2008 at 01:45 AM. |

I think it depends on each persons own ears and listening preference.
I have a Pioneer and Klipsch and I think it sounds great. But that's my personal preference. I had a Denon as well to compare and I felt the Pioneer was better sounding. To each his own I think. |

I bought a Marantz 7002 and i took it back for a Yamaha RX-V3800,I think what me and bdrex28 are trying to tell you is it's all you Brother. How much are you looking to spend?
I say this all the time make a list of what you want in a reciever then take it from there.Denon has it's own sound just like Yamaha, pioneer and Onkyo. It can be a difficult choice but its fun ![]() But when it was all said in done the choice came down to me and what i wanted my reciever to do and sound ![]() I can give you my opinion but thats the problem,it would be mine not necessary yours.Time to do some home work brother. Then hit the pavement. Good luck my friend, come back to us with a list of recievers in your price range ![]() Last edited by ozzman; 08-22-2008 at 02:37 AM. |

Recievers do have differences, Onkyo and Yamaha seem to be power pushers, as for Denon and Harman's have lower power ratings but have a wider sound stage. So it all depends on what you are looking for. Just make sure that a reciever is high current. There are many low priced recievers that are low current and the quility is much less than high current models. Most Sony's are low current as with many HTIB systems.

Pioneer Elite VSX-94THX
Pioneer Elite SC-05 Yamaha RX-V3800 Is what I'm currently looking at. Price range probably maxes around the $1,500 neighborhood. |

Did you read the sticky on the top for the Pioneer Vsx-94THX.I suggest you check it out.
Its an awesome reciever and from what i understand everybody who has purchased it are very happy. With the 3 recievers you mentioned you really can't go wrong.Have you found a dealer around your area that sells these 3.If so go check them out. If you were asking my opinion on what reciever to buy i would suggest the 3800. But that receiver has a lot of features you might not use .So it might be a good idea to look at the Yamaha 1800 as well. But remember this ,just because i like yamaha doesn't make me right. It makes me right for me not necessary right for you.Are you confused yet. |

Clumsy to set up, though. But once you're done, nothing beats it. The 94THX has sound modes I would like to have, but I'm not really worried about it. Not knocking the Yamaha - but Pioneer has worked out great for me. |

its actually a matter of preference, and/or perception.
a number of comments mentioned where that denons have a 'warmer' tone... marantz's as well, are considered to have more midrange in them... but as i mentioned previously, its an interaction between your reciever and your speakers... perception begets reality. |

Leaning towards a Pioneer Elite SC-07 now I think. The store I planned to buy from can get me an 07 but not an 05 so I might just spend the extra money and grab it soon instead of waiting forever to get the 05. But anyways. Thanks for all the input, fellas ![]() |
