Receiver and Speaker Quality

Recievers do have differences, Onkyo and Yamaha seem to be power pushers, as for Denon and Harman's have lower power ratings but have a wider sound stage. So it all depends on what you are looking for. Just make sure that a reciever is high current. There are many low priced recievers that are low current and the quility is much less than high current models. Most Sony's are low current as with many HTIB systems.

Is what I'm currently looking at. Price range probably maxes around the $1,500 neighborhood.

Did you read the sticky on the top for the Pioneer Vsx-94THX.I suggest you check it out.
Its an awesome reciever and from what i understand everybody who has purchased it are very happy.

With the 3 recievers you mentioned you really can't go wrong.Have you found a dealer around your area that sells these 3.If so go check them out.
If you were asking my opinion on what reciever to buy i would suggest the 3800.
But that receiver has a lot of features you might not use .So it might be a good idea to look at the Yamaha 1800 as well.

But remember this ,just because i like yamaha doesn't make me right.It makes me right for me not necessary right for you.Are you confused yet.

its actually a matter of preference, and/or perception.

a number of comments mentioned where that
denons have a 'warmer' tone...
marantz's as well, are considered to have more midrange in them...

but as i mentioned previously, its an interaction between your reciever and your speakers...

perception begets reality.

Yes, i have read that thread and I think I would be very happy with the Elite 94, but since the Yamaha is roughly the same price and it was recomended based on my speakers i'm just second guessing what the absolute best choice would be.

Leaning towards a Pioneer Elite SC-07 now I think. The store I planned to buy from can get me an 07 but not an 05 so I might just spend the extra money and grab it soon instead of waiting forever to get the 05.

I'd say Pioneer (I have two of the 84THX receivers), if you are running 8ohm speakers. Gobs of power - I'm running 7 Definitive Mythos speakers, oddly rated at 4-8 ohms, on the bigger HT setup, and the Pioneer doesn't even breathe hard doing it. Absolutely clean sound.

Clumsy to set up, though. But once you're done, nothing beats it. The 94THX has sound modes I would like to have, but I'm not really worried about it.

Not knocking the Yamaha - but Pioneer has worked out great for me.
