Do you guys think with this size TV there is a big difference in picture quality between the 720's and 1080's. The reason I ask is I'm in the market for a 32" and I'm wondering if the extra 200.00 is worth it in your guy's opinion.

i am a college student living in a dorm and i have a 32 inch sony lcd (KDL32NL140) which is 720p and i love it. like the other guy said, the only reason you would want/need 1080p is if you are sitting really close or using the tv as a computer monitor

Gotta disagree... my experience on the matter is mostly limited to comparing 720 vs 1080 media on the same 40" monitor, and I think the difference is very apparent. Also, consider that the features are often (but not always) scaled-back on 720p units to cut price. Just go to Best Buy or some other place and see the units side-by-side, it shouldn't be hard to see the difference.

Yeah, I sit pretty close... I figured it's a safe assumption that if you use a small monitor then you sit close to it.

well then, im glad you have a 1080p set because otherwise you'd probably be blind lol. if the OP is going to be using it the way that you do, i'd recommend he get a 1080p set, if not, then he should probably save his money and use it on something a little more useful than unnecessary lines/resolution. agreed?

i agree completely, but i think the OP is trying to be a smart spender based on his asking whether or not it is worth the extra $200 for a 1080p set, so only his intended use will determine whether or not he should get the better set or not

I own a 32" Sharp Aquos 1080p. I sit about 5 or 6 feet away and can still see the difference. Sony and Samsung also has 32" 1080p tvs but their contrast ratios are higher than mine. Mine has 10,000:1, Samsung has 15,000:1, and Sony has 25,000:1. I'm still waiting for 32s to have 120hz.

240Hz debuted at a recent tech show, but I haven't heard of any plans for its commercial release for this holiday season, (I believe it was Samsung, and they said it was still a year or two off).

For a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, 2ft would be about right. Last edited by dobyblue; 09-04-2008 at 01:07 PM. |
