Default 32" TV's with 1080...?

Do you guys think with this size TV there is a big difference in picture quality between the 720's and 1080's. The reason I ask is I'm in the market for a 32" and I'm wondering if the extra 200.00 is worth it in your guy's opinion. Thanks in advance!

not worth it unless you are sitting really close, like a few feet away. 3-4 feet

Even if you were 2 feet away....I doubt you could tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

Save the money, go with the 720, and apply the savings toward movies or other a/v components.

i am a college student living in a dorm and i have a 32 inch sony lcd (KDL32NL140) which is 720p and i love it. like the other guy said, the only reason you would want/need 1080p is if you are sitting really close or using the tv as a computer monitor

Gotta disagree... my experience on the matter is mostly limited to comparing 720 vs 1080 media on the same 40" monitor, and I think the difference is very apparent. Also, consider that the features are often (but not always) scaled-back on 720p units to cut price. Just go to Best Buy or some other place and see the units side-by-side, it shouldn't be hard to see the difference.

yeah but that is a 40 inch screen...the OP wants to get a 32...like i previously stated, the only way he'd be able to see a difference is if he is planning on sitting closer than 1.5x the diagonal distance of the tv (48 inches or closer)

Big difference between a 32 and a 40 inch set. And then one must factor in the increased cost of a 1080p set over a 720 set of that size.

Yeah, I sit pretty close... I figured it's a safe assumption that if you use a small monitor then you sit close to it.

I use it as a desktop monitor. Two feet if I'm at the keyboard, three feet when I'm sitting back.

well then, im glad you have a 1080p set because otherwise you'd probably be blind lol. if the OP is going to be using it the way that you do, i'd recommend he get a 1080p set, if not, then he should probably save his money and use it on something a little more useful than unnecessary lines/resolution. agreed?

Yeah, those exta lines are only unnecessary when they're out of your budget. There's definitely a purpose for 720p sets, just not my purpose.

i agree completely, but i think the OP is trying to be a smart spender based on his asking whether or not it is worth the extra $200 for a 1080p set, so only his intended use will determine whether or not he should get the better set or not

I own a 32" Sharp Aquos 1080p. I sit about 5 or 6 feet away and can still see the difference. Sony and Samsung also has 32" 1080p tvs but their contrast ratios are higher than mine. Mine has 10,000:1, Samsung has 15,000:1, and Sony has 25,000:1. I'm still waiting for 32s to have 120hz.

screw that they should have 2ms response times if you use it as a pc monitor. and i guess 120hz would be nice for games but i find it annoying on movies

240Hz debuted at a recent tech show, but I haven't heard of any plans for its commercial release for this holiday season, (I believe it was Samsung, and they said it was still a year or two off).

If you think that means anything at all, you should pick up Bose speakers and listen carefully to what Tom Cruise says about religion, because it's all marketing propaganda - rubbish.

You should be able to resolve 1080p on a 32" screen completely at 4 feet with average eyesight. With 20/20 or better you should be able to get out to 5-6 ft.

For a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, 2ft would be about right.
