Default Blu-Ray DVD Products to Be Available in China

Blu-Ray DVD Products to Be Available in China

SHENZHEN, March 2, SinoCast -- Best Buy Co., Inc., North America's largest retailer of consumer electronics, will take the lead in selling Blu-Ray DVD products in China in July of this year.

"Both parties are negotiating about the pricing", according to Best Buy. This, without doubt, came as a prelude for Blu-Ray DVD products's foray into the lucrative Chinese market.

Actually, Sony and Samsung did not only showcase Blu-Ray DVD products in China. Nevertheless, extravagant price has stumbled the sales. Along with the cutting of Blu-Ray players' price, Blu-Ray products will swarm into China swiftly.

Blu-Ray players of USD 599 will be available for Chinese consumers in early summer of this year, Sony announced on February 26.

Moreover, the unit price for Blu-Ray player is likely to be cut to USD 299 to USD 399 by the end of this year, forecasted Stan Glasgow of Sony.

Indeed. Well, it just got approved by the DVD forum. I wonder what the DVD forum has to do with a format developed by and for China. Or isn't C-HD DVD actually EVD v2.0?

Well, I know of 4 different solutions being worked on. Which means there are likely another 4 I don't know about. The real standard at the end of the day is what people there buy. Most people outside of China still assume just because the phrases "standard" and "chinese government" are in the same sentence, it means that is it is a done deal and is what will be made, sold and bought. Another tug at the sleeve is that consumers there do not want to buy products that can't play content made elsewhere. So it's hard to lower royalty costs when a player manufacturer not only cannot get rid non-chinese royalites, but has to add chinese royalies on top of that.
