Your PS3 decodes HD audio (DTS HD and Dolby True HD) internally and sends the decoded signal via PCM using HDMI to the 705. Be sure to set your PS3 to LPCM, not bitstream. Since the 705 receives the already decoded signal, it will NOT display the codec name, only PCM.

Try reading through this thread to get the low down on pcm and bit streaming and such.

instead of saying PCM MulitCh. it says PCM Dolby Pro Logic II...i am running only a 5.1 speaker setup instead of a 7.1...i don't have any surround back speakers.

I believe having it set to bitstream instead of PCM will do this as you will only get channel output and the receiver will us pro logic.

sounds like your ps3 and tv connections are right. Perhaps your receiver got changed to mapp multichannel pcm to pro logic. Goto <setup><listening mode presets><pick your input device (ie, dvd, cable or whatever port is set for the ps3 input><multich PCM> To the right of the last selection it should list what the preffered mapping is. It should be set to "multich". It may be set to pro logic or last valid. IF it's set to last valid then it basically may have been manually set via the remote to pro logic at some point and it worked, so now it always defaults to this. When i look at my other inputs that i dont use they are set to last valid, which seems like it may be the default (i don't recall if this is true). I do know i had to go through the listing source inputs and specify what i wanted the sounds to map to as a default. I prefered that over last valid. |

for some reason multichannel is not in the list. i do have it set to pro logic II THX...i don't exactly know what would be the best option for movies so after reading the manual that sounded like a good choice.

Have you selected the proper output settings for your PS3's audio? Every single box should be checked except for AAC (you will have to scroll down to see all of them).

You have to set it to PCM in order to get the Multi Channel on your reciver and listen in HD sound, PS3 does not bit stream the HD sound. |
