Default Help with picking a Blu Ray Player

I am looking to buy my first blu ray player, but i honestly don't know too much about them.. so without breaking the bank, i am hoping i can get a few good options from u guys here. Not really willing to break the bank for a player for another 10 or 20 years probably. So just something solid to get by for now. I have a new Harmon Kardon receiver, and new speakers... so just looking for a new dvd player to complete my setup. thanks!

I believe that the Sony PS3 is the best choice for the price (unless you don't like its look, sound, appeal, or need a player with 5.1 or 7.1 analog outs) and Sony rolled out a 10 year PS3 plan so you should be set for a while.

Do you have a all in one remote? because the ps3 biggest down fall is no IR.

I don't really mind using multiple remotes, if that's what you mean... not a big deal to me.

So is there a difference in getting the 40G, 60G, or 80G version of the PS3 if im just using it for movies?

PS3. Fastest load time, gaming and WiFi with a near full internet browser.

Default Does your receiver decode new audio codecs

Hi before you get your PS3, does your receiver decode the new Dolby True HD and Dts Master Audio? And short of breaking the bank what budget were you looking to spend on a player?

Yeah, the PS3 would be the best for this receiver, and if you have a router it's easy to keep up to date with upgrades, and you'll have a fast BD live.

Cheers

ok cool, yea i have a wireless router.

A few more questions...

1) what cables will i need to purchase along with it?

2) My tv is 720, not 1080, do i need to somehow set this up with the PS3 to make it work?

3) Is the 40GB good enough or do i need a 60 or 80 GB one?

Your AVR doesn't accept audio over the hdmi input, so the ps3 would not be the best player for you. You want a player with 5.1 analog audio outputs so that you can take full advantage of your discs.

I would recommend this: Panasonic DMP-BD50

It is the only player that satisfies all your needs although slightly more than $400. Here are some other players that output 5.1, but don't decode DTS-HD MA:
Samsung BDP-1400,1500 only has stereo outputs.
Sharp BD-HP50
Sony BDP-S500

you can get an hdmi cable from monoprice.com
they should be able to satisfy all your cable needs. You'll want analog audio cables as well if you go the stand-alone route. If you get the ps3 you will need an optical cable in order to get surround to your avr.
