Does the onkyo 576 do the same thing? I.e. Does it accept 1080/24p video signal via hdmi?

Quick question also about the Onkyo 606. I noticed on the front display panel that the "TruHD" doesn't light up but when I look on the movie audio info via the PS3 controller that it is putting out "TrueHD". Does that light on the front panel ever light up? It always say "PCM Multi-Channel"

From what I understand, the ps3 decodes the TrueHD ans passes it along to the reciever. Since the reciever does not do the decoding the TrueHD light does not come on. I wondered the same thing. Make sure the ps3 is set to Linear PCM out, and you shouldnt have a problem.

That's what I thought. Is there a way to have the 606 decode, just as a test, to see if the "TrueHD" light turns on?

This has been a place of confusion for me in deciding on a new receiver; my needs are few but one of them would be HDMI repeating and the ability for the receiver to decode TruHD / DTS-MA via HDMI. Our old Yamaha is fine for now but I'm reliant on optical / digital coax because it doesn't have HDMI (or even component - yes it's a few years old). Anyway, it looks like the 605 / 606 both do this, any reason not to go for a 605 if I can get a deal on it? Or a different model? Or Yamaha?

You should be fine. From my understanding, the receiver doesn't touch the HDMI video at all. It sends it straight to the TV without any loss of quality.

Anytime you pass video through a switch, especially in an entry level receiver, there will be some loss of signal. If you can tell or not depends on how good your display is and how good your eyes are, but it will be there.
