If you really want a steal, get the 805 right now from amazon for $600. If you don't care about fancy satellite connections and so on, I think the 805 is the better receiver anyways.

Edit: The 805 has satellite radio connections too. The only differences I'm aware of is HDMI inputs and different DAC's. The 806 has quality DAC's, but the 805 has Burr-Brown

I agree. That was how my brother and I got ours was through a seller on Amazon. Your Bd's will sound great through this too. Just make sure you have the room for it, that thing is a beast.

805 > 806 right now

Only thing i'd be cautious about is the fact that the 806 is newer, so the bugs aren't really worked out yet, so you don't know what to expect. I know there are a few issues already with the 806.

If you are gonna go with Onkyo pick up the 805. Especially at the price it's at now.

Yes I have an 805 and I love it, pure power and at that price of about $600 is a steal as I paid much more for mine and I have had no issues at all with it and I am pushing a pure 7.1 system no problem.

Question Onkyo 805

Onkyo 805 seems to be a good deal at 600.00 or so price range. i have been thinking of seperates (emotiva) but im not a rich guy and the onkyo 805 seems t have it all. i don't have a dedicated theater room, just a den. anymore thoughts on the 805? i have heard the gui setup is not too great, also, how does it compare to yamaha receivers as far as sounds goes? thanks in advance, just trying to cover all the bases...

I found Onkyo's to be much better for movies and surround sound than Yamaha's. But thats just me

I am curious about the whole THX sound option myself ,I've had my 805 almost a year now and I'm still not sure what movie are you supposed to watch it with because the are no THX bds that I know of,I use the THX Games setting when I play Madden but I'm ignorant to the whole movie watching concept

i wouldnt recommend a used receiver, especially not for a 100ish difference in price for a brand new one

why not? it's factory refurbished with a 1 year warranty. pretty much as good as new. but of course if you have the money to burn.

I turn it on for a lot of movies, mostly action or sci-fi though. I know this might sound tedious but after I watch a movie I usually leave the credits playing and towards the end of the credits you can see where the sound and video were produced or who at least helped with it. If it says Industrial Light & Magic or Skywalker sound I usually turn on THX mode the next time I watch the movie.

But really all THX means is that its certified to be played in a certain size room and/or loudness among other things...I think

You can use it with any movie, not just THX approved movies. It is a custom sound field like Dolby Prologic 2 that can be applied to add more life to a soundtrack.
