They say Michael Mann himself is overseeing the new transfer for 'Heat'--but I guess it's a bit of an exaggeration? He's working on 'Public Enemies' now and I doubt he has the time for that.
Maybe that's why Heat keeps getting delayed? Are they waiting till Mann 'gets around to it'? ![]() |

Everything I've seen (Bill Hunt's report, comments from Penton) indicate that Heat is planned for 2009. There were problems with the master and they are doing a director-supervised restoration or something, so the results should be worth the wait. |

Do you have insider information to be able to say this or are you saying that because WB has been putting out titles on bd-25? Not all movies need a bd-50. More than likely this will be on a bd-50 due to the amount of anticipation surrounding this title.

When WB first started releasing BDs in the hardcover book style cases there was an announcement about Heat being due sometime this summer. Obviously that was changed. I'm glad Warner Bros. and Michael Mann are working on a restoration and supervised transfer. It's a guarantee the finished BD won't be sourced from some old, soft looking HD telecine master. If they're spending the extra money to scan the film negatives and do a digital intermediate treatment the finished product should look great. It would be nice to have Heat on Blu-ray soon. But I'd rather have WB take the time to get the disc authored correctly rather than throw together something crappy looking just to have it out on store shelves now. Quote:

I'm saying this based on the length of the movie. To think otherwise, would be foolish.

TDK has a $500 million domestic box office gross, and it will have all of the goods for the Blu-ray edition. BTW just watched The Gauntlet and the PQ is top notch.

I know it's weird to hear this coming from me, but I think that whomever is in charge of warner's catalog releases knows that we want lossless audio, as the lossy audio issue hasn't really been a problem for catalog releases. It seems to only be the new day and date releases that get lossy audio. As such, I'm not too worried about Heat getting a lossy track

I think these specs are quite fine. As for 'Heat' , if it doesnt get the best a/v treatment it will be a sad joke. |
