Question New Receiver, Questions

hey guys...just bought the pioneer 1018 receiver the other day. i dont have speakers just yet but i just want to familiarize myself with it.

i put in a BD (the prestige) however the display still says STEREO in large print and pcm in very small print above it...how do i get it to play the pcm track? (or is it just not doing it because i have no speakers attached )

also, im hearing no sound from my TV (im assuming the receiver shuts off the tv speakers, but i would just like some clarification)

btw, im using the ps3 and everything is hooked up with hdmi cables

thanks

First, make sure your receiver isn't in any kind of stereo mode. Second, make sure you have your PS3 set to Linear PCM. Then, make sure you have gone through the audio part of the menu, you go to HDMI, you select everything, and press save. You may also want to check and make sure you select the HD audio option from the Blu itself. Then, press select while watching the movie and see what is playing.

You should be able to press a button on your receiver that says listening mode or something to that extent.

Have you tried reading the owners manual?

There's a lot of *great* stuff in there on how to operate it that you need to know......

The Pioneer manuals can be really intimidating. I've read through mine three times now and everytime I pick up something new. Stick with it - there's a ton of material in there

I put my manual in the Washroom for reading,Every time i "have too go" i learn something new

Remember it's the bible of your reciever,So that being said Just like the bible we need help translating it sometimes,And this forum is the right place.

But may i recommend for you to look for a thread made just for the pioneer 1018 reciever. You can find out so many answers that way,Here's a couple threads i found check them out it may help.
It's what i did when i purchased my new reciever, and by the way NICE reciever

Good luck my friend and have fun

Do you have Yahoo! Messenger or AOL IM?

Maybe one of us can go through the manual with you via a I.M. program and help you figure this out.

...but off the top of my head...

since you don't actually have speakers connected...did you at least set up the speakers? telling the receiver you have a center and surrounds?

and did you also manually select 5.1PCM and 7.1PCM in the PS3 settings?

have any pic's of the receiver display by chance?

thanks for all the replies guys. been reading the manual every chance i get.

where it says DTS HD Master on that pic is where my receiver shows STEREO and it says PCM in small writing above it. i selected pcm in the ps3 settings but i didnt do anything like tell the receiver i have center/surrounds...do i need to do that even if i dont have speakers attached?

Yes, you should go through and setup the speaker configuration.

And with a PS3 you won't see DTS-HD MSTR or DD True HD on the receiver screen. All you'll see is PCM, or whatever mode you have the receiver in.
