Question Which Sony receiver is equal to Onkyo

I admit I'm lazy and didn't feel like doing a search for it but, which Sony receiver is equal to the Onkyo TX-SR805?

I'm looking into upgrading my receiver and I like the Onkyo 805 but I am a huge Sony fan and always have been. So, I'm curious as to which Sony receiver can output the same audio and have the same inputs/outputs as the 805.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Probably the STR-DG2100 or STR-DA3300ES.

or the STR-DA4400ES as far as a comparable watts per channel

I don't believe any Sony receiver is equal to an Onky with similar specifications.

You want to stir the pot?

Arcam>Rotel>Marantz>Integra>Pioneer>Denon>Yamaha>O nkyo>Sony

And those are just the ones I know. But this is MY OPINION. Not based on any facts other than what I have seen and read on this forum. I could be mistaken. You could say/think otherwise.

And again, these are all based on the typical model. There ARE differences in the higher end lines of one I rank lower than the lower lines of one I ranked higher. Case in point, I would get one of the Sony STR ES over the Yamaha 663. Now, attack me for my remarks. I can't believe this is my first time posting an opinion in the HT forum. I am not ATTACKING anyone's personal choices. I know Jason loves his DG920. I know Black and Kingy love their Onkyos, Beta and me our Marantz. OPINION!!! Just have to make it clear.

over the prospective ensuing comments.

haha we all have our opinions don't we.

Now if you want facts, based on home theater magazines testing they rate the Denon AVR-5308CI as the best receiver followed by the Integra DTR 8.8

But don't shoot the messenger haha

what's with all the praise on Onkyo? The only brand in receivers where I. Consistently get some bad surprises. Like HDMI pass through, need to assign inputs, movie cuts out half way through and receiver needs resetting with the special secret reset function, then once it is reset you need to assign the inputs again - then make sure no input has been doubled up, or it still doesn't work. Yes, you don't get to experience these pleasures with the sonys

While there are always horror stories about any particular brand, you've got to be kidding me on the list of problems you've put in there about the Onkyo. No receiver is perfect, but you're honestly the first I've seen to complain about some of the HDMI issues. I'm curious to know your setup. Maybe you had a bad one, but I've never had ANY problems with my refurbished 605.

"Consistently"... is this with more than one receiver? Models?

What's the ohm rating and specs on those speakers? If they're 8 ohms, just about any receiver. Otherwise, you may have to be picky.

I agree with you on the Arcam>Rotel>Marantz>Integra part, but I demoed my 805 against Yamaha Denon and Pioneer when I bought it and I thought the Onkyo was the best. Now, the lower models might be a different story, but there is almost nothing that can compete with the 805 at its price point.

To the OP, the only Sony that will match the 805 is the top-of-the-line ES model (I don't know the model #) Sony does not make very good audio products, stick with them for tv's, cameras, PS3's etc.

Easy....none. (and I'm not an Onkyo fan).

Let me in on this
Seperates>receiver>HTIB this is too funny All kidding aside - there is no Sony that is equal to the Onkyo 805 with the same features at the same price point. You have to move up to the ES to get there but Sony charges you for their ES badge. That's Sony's good...no best stuff. I'm not a Sony fan but I do respect and like a bit of their ES gear - its pretty solid and would put it up against an Onkyo 805 - but at what cost?

I see you replaced it with a SONY ES (as my old company boss taught me - its a huge difference). Sony ES is up there with the rest of the big boys. I respect them on the ES level.
