Default Sony Vaio w/ Blu-ray - Advice

I just bought the new Vaio w/ the ReWritable Blue-Ray Drive on impulse. It has the ability to write to BD as well as playing released movies. I have read PC Magazine reviews and Znet and both recommended holding off until Blue-Ray advances or goes away. The PC is still sealed in the box. Could someone who either owns a Blue-Ray player or this PC give me their opinion about the quality of Blue-Ray? Should I keep or return it? Oh, I have a 37" Sharp Aquos LCD and a 21" LCD in which to view the movies on. The reason why I bought it was for Video editing, DVD creation, and Gaming.

I have had nothing but awesome success with Blu-ray. HD-DVD is pretty much the same, but you run out of room way faster! Also, 8/9 movie companies have announced Blu-ray movie releases, and freaking Apple is behind it. Anything they do becomes standard pretty fast (optical wise).

I got Vaio w/ the ReWritable Blue-Ray too and spent a lot of time to make a my BD.

I was impressed how raw that technology.

1. Ulead BD can't get image disk (made by MAC DVD studio)
2. Nero 7 got image disk, but InterVideo BD can't read it (and anyone players too).
3. Created disk directly from Sony HD Camcorder playing only with InterVideo and can't playing in the Samsung BDP- 1000
4. Purchased Blue ray movies is not compatible with any PC player, including InterVideo BD for Vaio.

My resume is : Sony Vaio is full bullshit. I do not recommending anyone to buy it.

Best regards
Victor

I just finished returning my vaio notebook. The blueray would not work, the windvd software would free up. the optical out was not recognized by the computer and would only output in 2 channel. countless hours spend restoring and reinstalling. to have the same problem again 1 day later.

Its not often I say this about Sony, but save your money on these units. the technology just is not there to support this players in the computer.

Default Sony Vaio Desktop 310 Not playing Blue-Ray movies

Hi folks, I just bought a Sony Vaio Desktop and to my dismay it does not play Blue-Ray Movies. I have read some on maybe the bideo card being an issue... But I have not been able to make a conclusion, so I need some help:

1) has anyone figured out how to overcome the limitation of the Vaio RC310 desktop playing Blu-Ray Movies?

2) It seems the Laptop with BluRay plays movies, then why does the dektop not?

Interesting comments.

I have an Sony Vaio VGX-XL202 and it has played BD movies flawlessly since the day I first switched it on back in October last year. I use the pre installed 'WinDVD for BD' and have played both mpeg2 and VC-1 encoded discs. PQ is superb and the passive cooling Nvidia 7600 GTL card (with the latest drivers) can output 1920 x 1080p via HDMI to my KDL40X2000. I've recently tried the latest version of Cyberlink's PowerDVD which also plays BD's with no problems although I still prefer to use WinDVD for BD.

I will concede that this PC is marketed as a 'Digital Living Room PC' therefore it should be no surprise that BD playback is as good as I expected it to be.

Just bought the AR190G, Blu-ray rocks!
Machine came with House of Flying Daggers, while not my favorite genre of movies, the picture is killer!

Going to go get a couple more BD movies tomorrow.

I've purchased a Vaio VGN-AR21S - blu-ray playback works like a dream. A 1080p picture is output to my Bravia (KDL46W2000U) via HDMI and Dolby Digital audio to my AMP (STR-DA1200ES).

So far, I've only tried 2 movies, Monster House and Hostel - can't wait to buy more!

I'd highly recommend this laptop to all! :-)

Hi. I seem to be missing something here. Have Sony got BLU Ray desktops available now? I thought it was only their notebook? Where did you people get it from?

In the UK we've had this model of 'Media Centre PC' available since last year. I highly recommend it, although its soon to be upgraded to include more memory and a faster BD drive.

I remember reading something that there was no software to play Blu-ray discs on a desktop with a seprately bought drive at first. The Vaio laptops come stock with Intervideo Win DVD for BD. Now you can get I believe UltraDVD or PowerDVD or something that plays both Blu-ray disc and HD-DVD discs. Good Luck!

Default Connecting Sony laptop to Sony Bravia HD TV

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-V40A12U HDTV and a Sony Vaio VGN - AR21S laptop ( which has a Blu Ray disk drive). I want to connect my laptop to the TV by HDMI cable for the picture and optical cable for best sound through my Denon Home cinema system in order to use it to play Blu ray disks and use the Windows Media Center features.. I have read in other forums that you can 'break' your TV if you do this incorrectly. Can anyone advise me a) if what I am trying to do is feasible and b) how I would do this without harming my TV?
My laptop is full HD 1080 but my TV is 720p. I am currently using a resolution of 1280 x 768 on my laptop but my TV is 1366 x 768. Will this cause a problem. Also my HD channel is AV5, do I need to be on another channel to project from the laptop.
Any related advice will be much appreciated.
