With the annoucement that yet another title from Warner, Get Smart, seems to be getting released without a Lossless audio track I wanted to start putting together some numbers for Warner to look at.
The idea of this thread is simple. Make a post with a list of any titles ALREADY released that you have no intention of purchasing (or at least not likely to be purchasing for a long time) due to the title not meeting your AV quality standards for Blu-ray. If more titles are coming in the future that you won't purchase, I'd prefer that you come back and edit your post later on the off chance that there was mis-information in a press release and you end up purchasing it. I'd also like to ask that the titles you list are things you would have definitely purchased otherwise, and please do not post things like "300 - because it was too grainy". There is a big difference between a title being released in poor quality and you just not liking the look/sound of a certain movie. Lastly, the point of this thread isn't to bash Warner some more (that can be done elsewhere). It's simply to gather some numbers on what we collectively have cost Warner in sales. We may not make much of a dent ourselves, but we definitely can make a dent together. Hopefully numbers like these can be used to help make Warner see the error of their ways. Total loss in sales so far from Blu-ray.com forum members: $1009.55* *Number obtained using Amazon prices, and I'm going to try and update this number once every few days (assuming the thread stays active enough) Last edited by bajor27; 10-11-2008 at 04:11 AM. |

I'll start things off.
I am personally boycotting ALL Warner releases (regardless of qualilty) until change is made at their company. So far I've skipped: Sarah Connor Chronicles: Season 1 Eraser Smallville: Season 7 Speed Racer Blow LA Confidential Last edited by bajor27; 10-03-2008 at 07:24 PM. |

What's wrong with L.A Confidential. There's a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 yes for the first hour the picture is compressed. This is a problem with original the movie. It was made with a budget of just 15 million.

As of Oct 7, I've NOT ordered:
Speed Racer $19.95 Interview with a Vampire $19.95 Run Fatboy Run $23.95 Risky Business $20.95 Beetlejuice $23.95 The Lost Boys $18.95 Michael Clayton $22.95 One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest $22.95 Bonnie and Clyde $22.95 Natural Born Killers $25.95 There are probably more that I've skipped, and there are a lot of pre-orders I'm not adding to my shopping cart. Seriously, Warner. I really hate you. Get your act together. Total so far= $222.50 |

I will not spend a penny on NEW movies on Blu Ray that have been recently released without lossless audio. I did not buy a new receiver to hear the same lagacy sountracks I could hear on DVD.
I know you may be talking about newer releases I would have been all over Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon 2 if they were Richard Donner's Directors cuts and they had lossless audio. Bajor27 are you boycotting LA Confidential because of Warners video transfer because it does have Dolby True HD. |

I would've bought the following titles Day 1 if Warner Bros. would've released them with losseless audio:
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest Cool Hand Luke Speed Racer The Aviator The Unforgiven I'm not as concerned with Video quality, but i don't mind paying a couple bucks more for extra disk space so that both PQ and AQ can be their best. Many people complain about low bitrate encodes, DNR, VC-1, AVC, BD-25, but honestly most Blurays look amazing to me. I guess i haven't figured out what to look for when it comes to scrutinizing video quality. My eyes and ears are good, but i only really notice when the sound is lacking. You've lost about $150 from me WB, and that's just off the top of my head. |

I think it would be sweet though if they included a lossless track on all releases but also had the original mono or stereo track as Paramount did with the Godfather collection. |

I won't buy any non-lossless title from Warner's unless they have a perfectly good reason for it not being there. "Get Smart"... should be lossless pure and simple. A film like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"... you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear as they say. In that case lossless audio would make little difference. Anything that warrants a lossless release should be... no question.
One of the main reasons for buying into a format like Blu-ray is the improvement in audio as well as video. Warner's needs to rethink this. Last edited by goshikisen; 10-03-2008 at 06:57 PM. |

Just Speed Racer thus far.
But if new Warner releases continue to lack HD audio formats, I'll skip them as well. |

Another thing that bugs me about Warner is Batman Begins defalts to the Dolby Digital track WTF! If I didn't check I would have listened to Batman Begins in audio barely better than the DVD offered. The lossless track should be the defalt and Warner apparently did the same thing with LA Confidential, WTF!

A bunch of titles he listed have lossless tracks. He's saying that he's boycotting even the titles Warner does correctly to "teach them a lesson" or something.
I personally believe that just avoiding the titles you actually have a problem with is sufficient. Your paltry dollars aren't going to affect their bottomline in any way - even a forum-wide boycott would have little effect. No sense robbing yourself of enjoyment just because you are displeased with other titles. |

In answer to the topic question, they will lose very little in sales because the only people who boycott are a very small percentage of obsessive fans who whine on message boards all day and make custom boycott avatars.
The general public does not care enough to NOT buy a movie that they like because is has a standard 5.1 surround sound track. Most people simply are not that interested in a cause, they just want to enjoy their movies. Last edited by benricci; 10-03-2008 at 07:13 PM. |

I wont be getting it because of this as well. I REALLY enjoyed speed racer but I can't justify paying for that disc only fro the PQ when hi-definition is supposed to include lossless audio too. I'll wait until they selfishly re-release it with true hd
