Default Cleaning a LCD screen?

Anyone have any good suggestions for cleaning a LCD screen?

Preferably any ideas for getting something that would need to be scrapped off?

I used Methyl Hydrate on portable DVD screens. Left no film, no smear... nice but don't spray it on the screen... put it on the cloth like microfiber, then do the screen. If it drips down into the panel frame... yikes! You can get MH in almost any hardware store and it's cheap! I tried Windex - too much film and smear. I tried Alchohol (not Whiskey!) and that still left smearing. MH was great for spots, fingerprints etc.

I'm trying to find something that will get dried gunk off the screen without taking a blade to it.

Let's say someone didn't cover their mouth when sneezing while watching TV.

my niece kissed my screen for some f'ing reason after she put chapstick on. i found it like 6 hours later after i got home when it was all crusty already.

i just used the cloth that came w/the tv, soaked it in water, rung it out and wiped it clean. worked really well.

i had to clean off 3 spots like that!!!

I use the Monster formula on my LCD, and it worked great until one day I found streaks. Very faint streaks. It boggled my mind until I tried something different. Usually when I cleaned my tv it was while I was watching tv or right after. I'd notice something and go to work, that's when I noticed my streaks. So one time I waited until my tv screen was cold, overnight was best, and cleaned it before I watched tv. Huge difference! No streaks what so ever. So I'd pass this on to anyone that has the Monster or planning to use the formula. Use it with your screen cool. You'll be glad you did.

I just spray Windex all over the screen and wipe it down with a Bounty paper towel.

I don't see a need for any products or cleaning compounds.

I use a small hand towel that is soft and soak it in warm water (only). I squeeze out the excess water and wipe down the screen. After that I get another small hand towel that is dry and dry the screen. Sometimes I see some streaking, but rarely. If there is some streaking, I just continue to wipe the screen until it is all clean and streak-free.

I have an LCD and a plasma and this method works very well for me.

that's a bad move dude! The alcohol and chemicals in windex and other non tv cleaners will overtime eat right through your screen. Also spraying it right onto the screen is not recommended because LCD screens especially are not sealed! the liquid could get in between the panel and the casing. make sure you use a cleaner with no alcohol and no ammonia

I heard the safest way to clean your LCD is to use a microfiber cloth and distilled water. The distilled water is so that it doesn't leave any streaks I guess and the microfiber cloth so it doesn't scratch the screen. I just purchased a pad for my MacBook Pro from a company called Radtech and it seems to really get stuff off and protect my screen when it closes.

I didn't know that about Windex. I hope I didn't ruin my LCD screen. It seems to be working alright. Can I use lemon juice on a Bounty paper towel? If not, what about vinegar? I believe those natural products have miraculous cleaning powers on glass. My dad always told me that to clean glass really well one should simply wet some newspaper and wipe away. It works great on the patio door, but I don't want to try it on my LCD screen.

one of the other posters here suggested distilled water, thats a good step. Not sure about lemons because of the acidity levels. i use a screen cleaner from target made just for screen, comes with a microfiber cloth and duster and runs about 8 bucks!

WTF! Dry cloth with a circular motion! Thats how Philips suggest cleaning the screen. Seems odd to do circles - do they think we are waxing a car? I don't think I would do that.

+1. NEVER used windex or other general home cleaners on a tv screen
a lot of the Monster and other "screen cleaner" products are generally not good, either, as they can leave streaks on the screen (if people have found some that work then thats awesome, i just havent)

samsung has recommended to me that on LCD tvs you use a micro fiber cloth and a lens cleaning solution (like the kind for glasses). dab a little on the cloth and lightly press it on the screen. used it many times, no more spots, streaks, anything. screen looks untouched afterward
