Post HELP! Building my first Home Theater

After going through this website for a good period of time for the past two months. I am ready to start building a HT that will be future proof. I will be buying the receiver first then the speakers, as I've read everyone recommending to buy as I go. I will be having a budget of $600 for now but like I said I will be buying everything separate.

I will be hooking up XBOX 360/PS3/WII/TWC-HD/DVR receiver.

I've read about Onkyo/Yamaha receivers, Polk M 50/60/70 and CS1/CS2, Polk RM6750. I really need recommendations.

Thanks

UPDATE*

Thanks guys for your recommendations. I have a question. Lets say I get M50's for front L and R and a CS1 for center. Do I have to get M50's for rear speakers? If I get different speakers ill it make a difference?

At first my wife said its fine to build a HT. I showed her the speakers online and now she is saying if I can get smaller speakers since they are too big. I have no meaning of getting small speakers but if it comes to that what do guys recommend.

Thanks
