I'm wondering what should I use to clean the PS3 lens
Lots of lens cleaners at the stores say do not use on video game consoles. I'm worried that others may not have this warning but will still damage the lens Is there any official PS3 lens cleaning disc out there? I've had my PS3 on for maybe 200 hours in dusty places and I've heard that you should clean your lens every 10 hours so I'm really worried ![]() I want the lens to last as long as possible. And one more thing, does using the PS3 to copy mp3s and other files to it's HDD shorten the lifespan of the lens/motor at all? Thanks |

I would suggest if ain't broke, don't fix it. I would not put any of those lens cleaners near a blu-ray player. If and when it does need cleaning take it to a proper repair place. As for wearing it out, unless being silly like running it 24x7, I'm sure Sony will have designed it not to fall apart too quickly. If you have specific concerns contact your Sony dealer. If just a question in general I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm sure there are a number of people that have given it a good work out over the last few months. There have been plenty of posts about perceived issues, the HD-DVD fanboys would be spouting FUD like a whales blow hole, if they even got a whiff of it being unreliable. For sure there will have to be a few lemons with a 1,000,000 plus players out there, and I'm sure Sony will resolve the situation quickly.

Realizing this thread is almost 2 yrs old, I was wondering if anyone has come across any 'safe to use' lens cleaners for the PS3 since then?
I'm having issues with BD movies and games although DVDs and CDs still work fine, and I really don't want to send out my PS3 unless absolutely necessary. ![]() |

I heard TDK has released a BD lens cleaning kit. Anything that is designed FOR Blu-ray should be fine, but don't use the DVD/CD ones.
