Default James Bond: Quantum of Solace in 4K

I just wanted to share the article I recieved today in the April printed issue of Videography magazine on page 10. (http://www.videography.com). I found it great news that the film is being shot in digital 4K. We should expect nothing but the best quality when this film goes blu in the spring of next year.

Quote:
007 IN 4K: SOLACE SHOOTS WITH DALSA

The next James Bond motion picture, Quantum of Solace, will feature a complex visual effects shot captured with several Dalsa Origin cameras. As with most of Bond's missions, the details surrounding the cameras' use must be kept top secret for the time being; however, Dalsa revealed that the technically ambitious visual effects shot involved shooting with eight shutter-synchronized Origin cameras.

Dalsa shipped all the camera packages from Los Angeles to Movietech Camera Rentals at Pinewood Studios in London. The eight Dalsa cameras recorded their data to eight Codex digital disk recorders. The Codex disk packs were delivered to Sohonet in London for backup, after which the RAW 4K files were delivered to Double Negative in Soho for rendering and final compositing.

David Stump, ASC, the consulting VFX cinematographer, collaborated with Director of Photography Roberto Schaefer, ASC, on the shoot. Stump observes, "Working with uncompressed 4K gave us the ability to mine the maximum amount of detail from the scene. The low noise floor of the Dalsa enabled us see every nuance of detail from the dark blacks of the clothing."

Dalsa's Rob Hummel adds, "It was amazing as we watched all eight cameras shooting and pouring data into the Codex disk units. In total, we recorded over 3.8GB of image data every second. After a year of fine-tuning the Dalsa camera system, we felt we were ready to put the camera to the test. Of course, passing this particularly tough test, with eight cameras synchronized, was the best outcome I could imagine!"

I saw on Fox 5 news that there were two recent car accidents during the filing of Quantum of Solace. A Stunt driver was injured. I do not have a link. It was on TV. Anyone else heard about these stunt accidents?

Actually there were 3 accidents in a week!

I bet there will be some crazy car scenes in this one.

good because casino royale had NONE! it pissed me off! I still liked the movie but they needed a car scene and they had one that lasted like 12 seconds. It was kinda gay.

Is it just me or is this the worst title for a James Bond film?

Looking forward to it, though.

The bit you quoted only talks about a specific bit of the film being shot with the Dalsa Origin. According to IMDB, conventional film cameras are also being used to shoot the movie:
"Camera:
Arricam ST/LT, Zeiss and Angenieux Lenses
Arriflex 435/235, Zeiss and Angenieux Lenses
Dalsa Origin"

There were three scenes in Casino Royale that were there simply to show off the car, and there was the crash scene. There was no extended chase scene in a car, but they weren't absent from the movie either.

if it's half as good as casino royale I'll love it, and it sounds like it might be twice as good!

Yup, they should've added a few car chases with the Aston Martin.

We obviously need it in 4k.

Because if we didn't then all those 4k televisions that were to become the norm by the end of the year that one moron on HDD was spouting off about will become useless!
