Default Do You Ever Buy A DVD Instead of the Blu-ray?

I was wondering if there are situations where you feel the DVD is adequate or better yet, you actually get the DVD instead.

For example:
I bought the Unrated DVD of "Live Free or Die Hard"

My father gave me the deluxe DVD edition of "Field of Dreams" for Christmas a few years back. It's fair quality, DTS sound, but most importantly it was a gift of our favorite father/son film. I won't be buying the Blu-ray. It would feel wrong.

Sometimes I read an article on the quality of a film coming to DVD and it says "Oh the picture is too soft, and the audio not perky enough etc..." such as early reviews I've seen on 'Ferris Bueller' and 'Falling Down'. Since the Blu-rays are expensive I may just get the DVD if the Blu isn't going to be top notch.

Anyone else ever done the same sort of thing?

I haven't bought a movie on DVD since I got a Blu-ray player, and I won't. Even if the quality isn't amazing on Blu-ray it will still be better than the DVD.

Nope, I only get the DVD if it's a TV show...haven't bought a movie on DVD since January. Just don't see the point in buying DVDs, that format is almost worthless.

I buy most of my wife's movies on DVD because she doesn't care that much, even though she has a couple of blus in the collection.

Hey it was "Die Hard"!!! PG-13 version wasn't going to cut it!

Ok so if nobody has bought a DVD how about at least kept one or not re-bought a film on Blu-ray and relied on Netflix (As I've done for a lot of my collection, "Fugitive", Space Cowboys", etc...)

I only buy action, si Fi and animated movies on blu-ray sometimes comedy. All the others I won’t. It’s not worth it to me anymore, at first I was blu-ray crazy and got everything blu-ray, but as time passed I got over the hype. The dark knight, incredible hulk, I am legend action stuff like those. Oh and no more old movies. One too many bad transfers.

I'll go against the grain, I still buy DVD's. My wife yells at me for it because I'm a collector, and even though I've bought movies on Blu that I own on DVD, I'll keep the DVD (unless its not Anamorphic, yuck).

I LOVE Blu, but I still watch my DVD's, and loan them out, cuz I only know about 2 other people that have BD players.

I'll still buy a movie cuz Wal Mart still has some really good ones for $3.00, $4.00, and $5.00 sometimes. Best Buy still has some really good sales sometimes too. If a movie is $25.00 or $30.00 on Blu, but I can get it for $4.00 on DVD, or if it is not on Blu at all yet, I'll buy the DVD and wait...

That's just my plan anyway.

The only DVDs I've purchased since going High Def are mostly TV shows (though, I've cut back considerably) and a small hadnful of DVD-only releases that won't hit Blu-ray for quite some time, if ever.

Always buy Blu-ray's unless it's a kids movie that I need to be able to play in the car if they don't come with a digital copy. Otherwise, it's clear out the older DVD's, sell them on Ebay or donate to mother-in-law and make room for the Blu-ray discs!!

Ever since both of my eyes saw blu-ray at Best Buy in the summer of '06, I never turned back regardless of the number of times I was forced to sell off my blu-rays (including players) due to financial issues. And now, I'm back with buying blu-rays again along with a new PS3 (MGS edition:BC)

Well I just purchase a DVds for the first time in two years. Sony just released "Our Man in Havana" and I had to have it . However, when given the option, I always get the Blu.
