Default 24 or The Shield?

A local store is having a sale on every season for both of these shows. I have seen neither of them. I really like Prison Break if that has any influence. I like pretty much anything that has heavy action too. Each 24 Season is $20 and each The Shield Season is $15. Which show should I blind buy?

From what I've heard The Shield is a better show but the first season of 24 is excellent.

go 24. It was recommended to me to try shield as well, so I bought season 1. It is a good show but doesn't even stand up to 24. 24 is brilliant because of the action, supspense, the way the story builds, escalates, and is ultimately resolved. Do yourself a favor and just get all the 24 seasons while they are so cheap.

If you've never watched 24, then definitely give it a try.

We almost take it for granted now, but back then, it was quite the revolutionary show, in that it was all "real time".

But yes, the action and suspense in 24, at least in the first few seasons, is unmatched in my opinion by any other action-drama.

You must buy The Shield. Best written tv drama ever. Hands down. And not one season ever lets up. It has all built up to the finale tonight. It's gonna explode!

I would say 24, never seen The Shield.

You could buy the first season of each...find out which one you like more. Or you could rent them.

I wont tell you which show is better.

However, if it matters to you, 24 is shot on Panavision 35mm cameras and displayed widescreen.

The shields aspect ratio is old school TV 4:3 square.

Hope this helps.

That would be Deadwood or MadMen, not the Shield.

Shield is by far the better show. 24 is entertaining an I like it, but it can get a bit ridiculous at times in my opinion and I got tired of it in season 3. Shield is in my top 5 shows all time. Action wise Shield is not the one, but if you want a gritty, well written drama get the Shield. 24 is action and suspense, but a bit contrived at times in my opinion.

lol well said. One other great point to 24 is the evolution of the main character Jack Bauer. He starts off in season 1 as a relatively normal family man, and, well, you just need to see what the guy goes through and the lengths he goes to to protect the country.

The Shield by far. I haven't even bothered watching 24 for several seasons. The Shield is a 'Can't Miss' show every week. It's just too bad it all ends tomorrow night.

The Shield times a million! It's an AMAZING show! Gritty cop drama at it's finest!

Though the first season of 24 is pretty good. Everything after that is unrealistic crap.

Those are all excellent shows. Deadwood may be my favorite for dialogue.

How would you rate Rome, Carnivale and Jericho?

Rome is definitely in my tops. It could probably fit into slot 5 if mad men was not there. Carnivale I have not gotten to yet, I do plan on it. Jericho is another one I intend to check out sooner or later.

Did you get a chance to see Breaking Bad on AMC? I really liked it too.
