I installed banana plugs on my speaker wire a few days ago. Today I rearranged my side towers a little bit to open up my pathways because a relative in a wheelchair was coming to spend the night. When I ran Audyssey to calibrate the new positions; my left surround, a Klipsch F1 tower, sounded odd when the test tones played and Audyssey errored out on that channel. It sounded as if the tweeter was not playing. I plugged my banana clips into the top posts on the speaker and it sounded fine, I was getting sound from both the tweeter and the woofer. When I was running stripped wire I always used the bottom posts, but put the brass clip on top of the wire to insure good connection with the clip.
Do you think my brass clips just weren't making good connection, or could it be a problem with the internal crossover? |

I don't think it is damage to the crossover. It sounds like a loose wire inside the speaker. Is this the same speaker that your dogs knocked over?
If the speaker sounds fine, just connect the speaker wires to the top binding posts. If it really bothers you, remove the woofer and inspect the inside. Removing a woofer is a simple job. I have done it many times. |

No, it's a different speaker. They were an open box item I got a good deal on at Best Buy. I'm pretty sure they were using banana plugs on the bottoms because the plug covers were missing on the bottoms only. I guess the clips just weren't making enough contact with both levels, but all four nuts were screwed in as tight as I could get them.

Give this a try, replace those metal clips with short lengths of speaker wire. makes a better connection and sounds better also the top posts are connected to the tweeter so your speaker should sound better connected to them, i know mine sure do.
