Default New Speaker Problem??

Our new speakers came in today to replace one of our rooms that still had tv speakers, anyway it has 4 connectors, and when I would plug it into the bottom connector via monster banana plugs (that had been used in my room, just the day before), all that came out was bass and muffled sound/voices. So I took it around the house hooked it to four of our current amps that are up and running and found the same thing on each. So I then tried to plug it into the upper banana plug connector and boom tweeters going, and upper drivers are working, but now no bass and no sound coming from the bottom(almost opposite of what was happening when it was plugged in the bottom - the no muffling) Just wondering if anyone could provide any input?

Did you go through all the packaging and check to see if there is 4 metal plates?

The plates link the woofers and tweeters if you only have one pair of connections (ie. not bi-wiring/bi-amping).

Should look something like this:

*No , I didn't see anything like that they have plastic around the connectors thats REAL tight.

The packaging that came only has a cleaning cloth, and a black and red short wire that has one side spade and one side banana plug.

That's good actually. Sounds like it just uses wires instead of a plate.

So what you need to do is unscrew the bottom two binding posts, put on the spade connector, and screw them back in. Now insert the Banana plug end in the top binding posts. Finally, put in your set of plugs that are from the receiver into the bottom binding posts. I'm assuming you have banana plugs, if it's bare wire, unscrew the bottom two again and put them in with the spade connectors. That's pretty much it.

It's not a problem. You can cut short pieces of speaker wire (about 4" or so) and use that to connect the upper and lower sets of binding posts. As usual make sure no stray wires from the + side touch anything on the - side. Tighten the binding posts down on the wires and then just plug your banana plugs back into either set of posts and you should be fine.

I would recommend contacting whoever you bought the speakers from though, and letting them know you should have received the factory jumpers but didn't. You may have to contact the speaker manufacturer to get the sets you were supposed to get.

EDIT: Icecoldblue beat me to it.

Glad I could help Supersix4.

Crazy, that must've taken a while to get two wires into one plug. I would've just bought a pair of open screw banana plugs for the bridge, and then shove my regular plugs into that one. But yours is definitely cleaner than that idea.

They were 803d B&W speakers to replace our main tv room, since almost everywhere else in the house that mattered we had dedicated audio gear.
