Default speaker problem?

ok so when i watch movies tv w.e, in some parts when ppl are talking the center channel crackles abit, and with some sound effects mostly loud ones, in the C/L/R it crackles abit, whatever speaker the sound effect is coming from, what is causing this?
how do i find out what it is?
is it the receiver? sony str dg720
is it the speakers? energy c-c100, and c-200s
or is it the speaker cable? i am currently using i think 16gauge, im not even sure what the gauge is but it looks around 16, when i bought it it didnt even say on the package, didnt really care at the time cause i got it at a huge discount, its monster cable and im jus have them hooked up bare

please help

i plan on upgrading receiver soon with 12gauge speaker wire and banana plugs(cause then the new receiver will take them), hopefully this helps if anything and its not a problem with the speakers!

I would check all speaker wire connections and make sure there are no stray wires touching. Also, make sure your crossovers are set correctly. If the speakers are set to large, the drivers may be bottoming out.

If you have a capable subwoofer, all your speakers become SMALL by default. A crossover of 80Hz works for most people and their speakers. If your receiver offers this option, it is not a bad idea to set the Low Pass Filter (LPF) of LFE (the subwoofer crossover) to 120Hz.
