I just recently found out there's more than one .
How many are there ??? I see there's a black one is he the latest ?? Whatever happened to the original is he dead? Is this superhero big in anyones eyes? If they made a movie would you care to see it and do they start with the original or do you rather have them use the latest version ??? Last edited by BLUE MYSTIC RAIN; 11-27-2008 at 04:17 PM. |

The most well known GL is Hal Jordan, who is now the current Green Lantern, again. Jordan was a test pilot who crashed one of his planes to find a crashed alien craft that had a dying Green Lantern in it. This GL bequeathed his ring of power to Jordan, making him the GL for Earth sector.
The one a lot of people are familiar with from the JL cartoon is John Stewart, who in the comics served as a back up GL for Hal Jordan. I believe, at least in the comics, that Stewart is an architect, which made a lot of his creations with the ring very detailed and structured. Earth also had two other "big" GL characters, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner. I forget the circumstances under which Guy Gardner was a GL, but last I knew he was part of the Green Lantern Corps again. Kyle Rayner became GL after Hal Jordan lost his mind after the destruction of his hometown during the Return of Superman storyline. This is the original reason why Jordan lost his mind. In the Green Lantern Rebirth storyline they go back and retcon this, but it's a long story, and I'm sure you can find the details on Wikipedia. Anyway . . . Kyle Rayner was an artist, which was cool because his creations with the ring were very intricate and detailed, where Jordan was more utilitarian. Last I knew, Kyle was still a Green Lantern but he was no longer the GL for Earth. There area whole bunch of Green Lanterns across the universe, comprising the Green Lantern Corps. The ones I mentioned are just the main ones. I stopped reading comics a few years ago, so that's where my knowledge of specific storylines and status ends. But that should get you going ![]() Last edited by BStecke; 11-27-2008 at 05:15 PM. |

But I give the nod to Hal Jordan. If Scott was the original, Jordan is the icon. |

I was just gearing up to give everyone hell about leaving out the coolest (well at least his outfit) Green Lantern.

Parallax (the yellow embodiment of fear) infected Hal and warped him into the villain known as Parallax. He wiped out the Green Lantern Corp and went toe to toe with the heroes from Earth. At the end he had some moment of clarity or something and, IIRC, sacrificed himself to save the universe. His soul was then reborn as the new Specter. Later Parallax returned and threatened to destroy Earth. Hal's soul was reunited with his body and he returned to life to lead his John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Kilowog, and Guy Gardner in defeating Parallax and trapping pieces of him in their seperate rings. |

I believe that Guy Gardner was made a Lantern during Crisis on Infinite Earths as the Guardians felt his methods would serve well during the Crisis.

The Corp has been destroyed/disbanded a few times, it may have been during one of those times. But yes, Guy was out of the corp and used a Sinestro ring for a while. And later he was bio-engineered to have some powers and called himself Warrior, which is where he was when Hal Jordan came back. Then Guy got his ring back and rejoined the Corp, where he's been since.

True that, but Alan Scott (much like our good buddy Superman) was the first, and I'm a sucker for the first. Geoff Johns made Hal good to me, before that I used to think he was always kind of a tool. Guy Gardner was always one of my favorites until Geoff came on board.
