Default I will NOT go outside on Black Friday

Last year --- I learned a very HARD LESSON: the day after Thanksgiving is the first day of hell.

Best Buy had a sale with LIMITED QTY's the morning after Turkey Day. I thought I was slick... I got up extra early, got dressed and drove to my local BB at 3 am the morn after devouring at least 5,000 calories of Pilgrim food (no, not a super-sized Big Mac meal). It was 10-degrees outside and the wind was gusting to 30 mph as I pulled into the parking lot. My eyes nearly burst as I spotted HUNDREDS of consumers on line ahead of me. They had lounge chairs and electric blankets, hot coffee in gallon-sized thermoses, and solar-powered video monitors tuned into The Weather Channel.

Best Buy reps dressed like Robo-cop wandered the consumer line-up advising that NUMBERED CERTIFICATES had already been distributed for discounted items to those who had camped out a week before the holiday. With my tail shriveled up from the cold and tucked between my ankles, I called Triple A on my cellphone to get a JUMP START to fire up my frozen car-battery, start my cryogentic engine, and I wandered off to my local McDonald's to buy a hot coffee and a dried-out McSausage and Egg biscuit. As I watched the sun rise over the eastern horizon, I wondered to myself... WHY???! Why did I wake up at 2 am to get to Best Buy at 3 am only to find out that the LIMIT 10 PER STORE Black Friday Sale was already SOLD OUT?!!!! I was so exhausted that I nearly passed out under the Golden Arches in Mickey Dee's parking lot.

From that day forward, I VOWED to the turd-wiper of Jabba The Hutt's underpants: I would never, ever go shopping the day after Thanksgiving EVER AGAIN!

Ever since it has been like I discovered the fountain of youth. Stay home the day after Thanksgiving. Watch BDs, be with family and friends, make love to the one you love, have a few cocktails... re-lax!!!!!! There will be another sale the next day... and the day after that.

Like Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz: "There's no place like home (click, click, click...) There's no place like home (click, click, click... )"

To all of my buddies right here on www.Blu-ray.com: (especiially YOU, Will Smith! )

Have a warm, wonderful, and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

I love you all.

Terrence

Default What R U doing on Black Friday?

I plan to stay home and nurse my hangover. And I have already pulled out about a dozen Blu-ray movies to watch while everyone else goes CRAZY trying to snag the latest DEAL at the mall. There's no place like home.....

Let's hook up and booze it up! Question: Why do they call it BLACK Friday anyway? Wouldn't GREEN Friday be more appropriate?

I've never been on the consumer side. I've always had to work on Black Friday (Blitz).

You are welcome

I actually thought they are quite different. But YOU work in retail and cannot tell the difference.

(Just kidding. I know that your job is more intense than any of ours).

Any risks in partaking in Valhalla are generally well worth it.

I can honestly say that I have never in my 43 years of life gotten up early to brave the black Friday hordes, and never will. I have been warm, and in bed every time.

I had to face it as a record store employee for 7 years though, while finishing college. It was a nightmare as a retail worker.

it is called black friday as it is the day of the year most retailers go from being in the red in terms of sales to being in the black and actually turning a profit!

I love working retail on BF! Gonna be extra fun this year! i am a store manager for Kohls and have to be there at 2am! yay me!

Had a similarly poor experience last year. Have no desire to repeat this year. Was at BB on Turkey day last year about 5:00 in the afternoon to sit the rest of the day and night. All was fine until about a 1/2 hour before the store was going to open when the mass of people all started storming to the front of the store. All the people that had been way way way back in line got up front pushing etc. BB people don't care, they don't condone the camping and there was no form of control what-so-ever. Never even made it in the store as there was little point with the "mini-riot" that occurred.

Slightly made up for my time after going home for a couple hours sleep before heading back out. Walmart of all places still had quite a bit of there morning sale items still available. Was also able to get another digital camera package that I had originally gone out for elsewhere...Still, not going to do it again.

I went to do Black Friday a couple of years ago, waited in line patiently for 8 hours, got inside, waited another 4 hours got what I wanted, and went home and back to bed, it was all in all a pleasant but boring experience.

This year, there's absolutely nothing that I really need or even want to justify the expenditure of nearly half a day. If you think about the cost of time versus what you are saving on your purchase, most of the time it's not worth it. I view my time as worth nearly $20 an hour, so I better be saving $240 on my purchase! There's just not those kind of sales this year. I'm not going to drag myself out of bed to pick up a movie for $10. I'd rather spend the $5 extra and sleep in.

Hell, I don't go into retail stores AT ALL between Black Friday and Christmas. Don't go into them much the other 11 months of the year, for that matter.
