Default Monitor vs. TV

Ive been looking for a small HDTV to put in my room to use for HD gaming and movies. Now, my question, whats the difference between an HDTV and HD monitor like this

I can get an HD VGA adapter for my console also, so that would solve that problem.

a monitor is more intended for PC usage.

But for most, it really doesn't matter.

are you looking for something to use as a TV also?

23" is kinda small. For PC/Xbox gaming it would be ok, but do you plan on watching TV/Bluray on it?

Dynex® - 32" Class 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

I run a PS3 on this, beautiful picture...and the regular cable looks good too.

i use a 20in hd monitor as a spare tv and it's great as it has full connections for analog to connect the cable box to. To use it as a tv you will have to have an external tuner like a cable box with dvi or hdmi output or the monitor will need an analog input like s-vid or composite for a normal tuner/cablebox, you can also use an analog to vga/dvi converter for this but the cost wouldn't make it worth while.

for gaming with a system like ps3 or xbox it wouldn't really matter as they have outputs capable of sending to a monitor.

another thing to watch out for is hdcp handshake over dvi on the monitor, you will need this so that the monitor can tell the device it is approved to playback hdcp media over hdmi like blu-ray, not all monitors have this.

the main difference with a "tv" and monitor is most tv's will have a built in tuner with f connector so that you can connect it to basic cable or antenna.

most monitors will not have a tuner and would need one (or a cable box) to watch tv on them.

This is the problem and now that im seeing more TV deals, i might drop the monitor idea. I would have to spend a good $40-$50 on a VGA converter for the xbox360 which would end up placing it next to the price of a full HDTV. So many options, its hard to choose

You may have just sold me a TV! Great price, and looking at the reviews, great quality. And considering its 32" with all of the connections available, its well worth throwing down the extra $100. Now to see if my local bestbuy has this in stock.

And with a monitor, you will probably need speakers of some sort.
