Default Monitor colors are off?

Hi,

I was comparing the colors on my laptop monitor with my desktop monitor (a Dell E228WFP), and the colors on the desktop seems to be warmer. For example, the whites have a very slight yellowish tint (only noticeable in comparison with the laptop), and the background for this text appears gray (while on the laptop, it appears light blue)

The background is supposed to be blue, not gray, right?
Also, would the DVE or AVIA calibration DVD's be good enough to correct this problem?

Thanks!

Welcome to the wonderful world of calibration and white color temperature.

Your displays should be caibrated to a standard called D65 (means Daylight at 6504ºKelvin) If they're not, or only one is, they would seem to have a color cast compared to the D65 grey or against each other. Btw for a quick check, the one that looks greyer (more "neutral") showing a true b/w pic when compared to an overcast sky, is the closest to D65.

As reference, an ordinary household tugsten lightbulb would be about 2500-3000ºK much warmer and yellower
