Default Anyone know anything about water turning colors?

Ok, I was drawing bathwater and I left to go get clothes to wear and all of the sudden the water is orange. I was like; "What the f**k?" This was on cold, btw. So then I drained it and filled it with hot water, it has a greenish color too it. Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with my water?

Maybe one of your kids is dumping packs of Kool-Aid or Jello in the tub while you're not looking.

Seriously, though, I've never heard of anything like that before. It would take the presence of some mineral or chemical to change the water's color.

Well orange sounded like it might be rust. Green's a different story.

Call the local plumber! Reason being, stuff like that gets mighty expensive if not solved quickly before turning into a big problem. You could have a cracked underground pipe, which is mighty expensive.

I've seen lots of horror movies, and I'm pretty sure this means your house is possessed.

Remember: when you run away, DO NOT trip on anything.

I didn't want to tell you this Orlando but when you weren't looking I REALLY had to pee so I used your tub. Didn't think you'd notice.

Call the Water Company.

If they are doing repairs or if a main broke in the heighborhood this will happen.

It happens where I live twice a year. Sometimes it takes a whole day to "flush" the neighborhood.

New pipes and a water heater were actually put in when my folks bought the place back last year. There's metal and hard plastic in the house.

Could be a problem with mains that feed your building or area check with your neighbor to see if he has the same problem as you.

Either way try not to drink it.

Sounds like construction somewhere near the source caused sediment to enter, and it was more than the filters could handle.....

More than likely it'll go away, or has already gone away, and you'll have to clear it out of your pipes and hot-water-tank.

Ditto what Squid said, in my neck of the woods they flush the fire hydrants once or twice a year. It turns everyones (well, anyone hooked up to city water) water orange for a few hours.

It could also just be regular sediment build up in your own hot water tank.

Plumbers do suggest emptying the tank once a yr to keep sediment out or to a minimum.

A few yrs ago, my hot water tank was moved over a foot because of a new furnace. I was forced to empty the tank because the sediment got sturred up and my water was orange.

Hopefully the woman in the bottom half of the house wasn't in the basement moving things around.

All right, thank you guys. Hopefully it'll be better soon.

Was there any peculiar smell when the water changed color?
