Default 16,000 People Laid off today!

The axe has come down and 850 people are being fired within MTV networks (MTV, VH1, CMT, BMT, Nickelodeon, etc).

Telecom giant AT&T announced today that they are cutting 12,000 jobs.

chemicals maker DuPont has also revealed that they will be eliminating 2,500 positions.

NBC/Universal is also laying off 500 employees today.
The job cuts are at all levels of the company — television, film and parks.

I feel for these people. And fear for me. I work in film. My job could be next.

I agree. I can't wait until things stop going downward. People can't live like this.

I think Fidelity recinded their buy offer to Land America and they are now bankrupt.

This is getting bad.

Why would it not continue, like i have been saying people in this country dont care about it anymore. All the proof that is needed is drive down a street, toyota, honda, nissan. We have done this to ourselves and are now going to pay a large price for the ignorance of many americans who feel it's not on them to help support the country they live in!

Just wait until it's 1.3 million people getting canned in one day, this little amount of 16,000 is nothing and a drop in the bucket compared to what is most likely ahead of us!

I have 2 hondas... I don't think that choice caused this. We live in a GLOBAL economy. Lets not get into that debate though. There's already a thread doing that. thanks...

I think everyone on here should do that. 1 30 dollar gift instead of a blu-ray would make all this BS bearable for kids. NONE of this is their fault.

I just moved to CA from NC... so I don't know where my good charities are. I'll donate to NC again this year since I will be there when I get back to the US.

I missed black friday which is when I usually get my gifts for the kids... we'll see what I can find.

this may sound a bit harsh but I think children should be made aware that things are tough for many people and will not get any better anytime soon.

they need to know why Santa might not deliver everything this year and that true x-mas spirit is sharing and spending time with family, friends, and others.

kinda like the Whos in Whoville when the grinch jacked all the presents

I'll agree to that. The one we have in our office goes to local kids that don't get anything. At least they will be opening one gift.

Child's Play is run by Penny Arcade and is a charity that donates to children's hospitals across the country. It was created to show people that gamers aren't what people make them out to be.

They had a crazy thing where for the donations taken, it would for a team of people to play Desert Bus, a crazy game by Penn and Teller where you drive a bus in real time. They raised something like 19k this year.

I'm suprised by that. There was a news report here in LA that retail sales at auto repair/parts stores had increased due to people not being able to buy new cars and fix the one's they have.
