Default Speaker Wire Quality.

Hey there, I currently have my fronts hooked up with bargain 18 gauge speaker wire that i picked up at the source. I think it's made by nextech. My question is whether im going to notice any difference in sound quality if i went out and got some quality 12 or 14 gauge wire. Remember this is just for fronts so there only about 10' each. Thanks.

I'm going to say "NO" but you might think you can notice a difference.....

For $5 it's worth a shot at least for the perceived value

You probably will not hear a huge difference. However, you can buy 20 ft of 12 gauge speaker wires and banana plugs for less than $20 from Monoprice. Locally, you can go to the Auto department of Walmart (not the electronic department where they sell TVs). They have good 12 and 14 gauge speaker wires at reasonable prices. Home Depot also sells speaker wire by the foot. Radio Shack is another possibility. It is an upgrade that makes you sleep better without hurting your bank account.

If you really want to stay awake permanently, buy the following from Audio Quest:

For 10 ft, you have to add another 4ft x $1,300 = $5,200
Total cost $8,900 + $5,200 = $14,100

Maybe they will give you a discount of $100 and a pair of speaker wires will cost you a nice round $14,000.

I suggest that you sell your A/V equipment on ebay and listen to your $14,000 speaker wires sing for you.

That is a marketing mistake. If you charge $200 for your coat hanger and call it a revolutionary speaker wire, people will assume it is a high end product and will buy it.

Well, I'd say you could always try some 12 or 14 awg cable from monoprice just to see if you notice any difference. If not, you're out $10. No harm no foul that way.
