Default Cracking Sound from my TV

Just noticed that since last night my Sony XBR is making a craking noise every so often. Sounds almost like if you were breaking a toothpick. My wife was watching Direct TV when it happened. Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions?

Never...

Is the sound coming from the speakers, or something in the chassis?

I have the 52" XBR LCD and the 70" projection XBR, both are totally quiet.

Signal interference maybe. You should call your satellite provider for advice.

From the casing itself and not from the speakers. It reminds me off the sound that's made from turning an old tv on or off.

Could be the case. One theory could be that the heat it is giving off expands the plastic some. I believe once in awhile my older (new at the time) would crackle once in awhile.

I,ve heard both my Sony and LG do this a few times. I have never had an issue with either unit and attribute the noise to thermal expansion. Neither unit has done it once the TV has been on for awhile.

My Samsung as done that when I first got it, I always figured it was just the casing that was just expendading on heat. It will do that sometimes even now when it's been on for quite a while. On Weekends my TV can be open for 12 to 14 hours sometimes

My TV used to do that a lot. When I first fired it up it'd pop a few times- like the plastic was expanding. It eventually went away but occasionally does it when it's cold in the house.

I wouldn't worry that much about it as long as everything else is ok.

I haven't heard of this much with lcd's or plasma's but it's pretty common in some DLP's. It's just the casing expanding and contracting as it heats and cools.

How old is it and what type of Sony XBR do you have?

CRT, RPTV CRT, RPTV LCoS, LCD, ... Over the years Sony has made XBR versions of all of those.

i've had my xbr4 for over a year now and it use to do the same type of thing for a month or so at one point but hasn't since. probably just thermal expansion or whatnot. nothing to worry about i would say
