Nice, then I will hold off on the US edition until they are both out. Will be interesting to see how they handle these, in terms of the frame rate.

A Matter of Loaf and Death is in 1080i50. It is a reference disc, IMO. I can't wait for Curse of the Were Rabbit, hopefully it is included in this set, since it's not in the US set.

Sounds good, I was just wondering if anybody knows if there are any more W&G episodes in the pipeline? I don't want to get this set if there will be a few more episodes to comes.

I hope they release "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" too ;o)

Yeah, I know, and I expect the other ones to be as well, since they were created for 25fps PAL TV. But what will Lionsgate do for the US release, will they slow them down to 24fps, or convert them to 1080i60?

I don't think the film will be in this set since it's called "4 Cracking Adventures" which are A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death.

However, I'm hoping they release it on Blu-ray at some point

This will most likely be a 2entertain release, as with A Matter of Loaf and Death, so no The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which is distributed by someone else (possibly Universal, I'm not sure).

Whatever happens, it looks like it'll be an essential release. I can't wait to see the earlier films in HD.

I'll pass unless the music edits are finally restored.

unless I'm wrong, the only music edit was the 'Happy Birthday' music cue - they obviousily didn't want to pay the hefty music right's price.

And How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? is also replaced. 2Entertain release great Doctor Who DVDs but most of their other BBC titles have tiny print on them "contains edits for contractual reasons", what they did to Only Fools And Horses is atrocious. To me its just not worth paying for something that's not as broadcast.

"The Curse of the Were Rabbit" was done in partnership with Dreamworks. Aardman had an agreement for a number of movies (I think it was 4) with Dreamworks, but this agreement came to an end as apparently the US mass market didn't take too well to the rather British humour of the movies. The other one produced by this partnership was "Chicken Run".

Don't forget Flushed Away (which was Aardman-like CGI).

But Dreamworks is obviously sitting on them. A shame, really - IMO any of those three was 100x better than the likes of Bee Movie, Madagascar 2 or Shrek n.

You are correct, "Flushed Away" was CGI with a claymation look. Quite a good movie of this genre... I liked the singing slugs

Did anyone pick up this release? I'm curious how it compares to the US release.

At long last! Just the announcement I hoped for prior to clicking, I hope Universal do a good job.

This was the kind of announcement I was hoping to see when I noticed this thread had been bumped. Are Universal blu-rays generally region free? I'm presuming not.

EDIT: Sorry to be predictable but my word that is lazy uninspired artwork.

from memory i don't think there's any locked Universal blu-rays or if there is then they're pretty rare, with this being a UK production but a US blu-ray is there any worry of speed up/slowdown on it or will it be in the same standards because it's a movie?

Universal rarely if ever region locks, so verrrrrry likely region free.
