Holy Crap...Steelbook overload!!

Just as the title states...the trading area has become rampantly overrun by greedy Canadians looking to make a quick buck...

I was just PM'ed an offer to buy one...by a BRAND FRICKIN NEW member no less!!!

I feel that jwbbud should hold the monopoly here...he has a proven track record and isn't looking to screw anyone over.

Things need to change...

i would LOVE to get a dark knight steel..but sheesh..the prices. i'd be ok with one member doing it, but that kind of goes against the spirit of the trading forum if only one person can trade

Hey I see it as a seasonal type thing.....I think most traders know who the good traders are in this forum. We all have the ultimate final say by purchasing from whoever we feel comfortable with.

There are some cool Canadians here on the forum, ask nicely and you may get lucky. Just post in their steelbook thread.

I haven't bought from JW but have seen him here a while, he's probably the standard.

There's a guy over on the other site (not sure if I'm allowed to mention the other site) that drove up to Canada from the States and purchased some for the benefit of U.S. folks, charging like cost not making any money.

Really nice of him to do that if you ask me. But yeah, it's gotten kinda greedy.

I'm not interested in TDK, but been trying to get a copy of IM SB as I missed out and the prices are exhorbitant! I just want one for my personal collection.

I understand what you're all saying and the group buys are something we've been discussing for a few weeks so we're aware of it. We don't want anyone having bad experiences with it. Jwbbud has a proven track record and we wanna make sure people are safely making transactions on here.

One member monopoly is stupid, plain stupid. If you guys don't want to buy, just don't buy. I don't deal with JW on here, but he's a solid guy. I buy directly from a canadian member and prices are always reasonable (and cheaper than anyone that imports them to the US, then reships them) when you factor in their taxes, shipping, packaging, time etc. I won't name the member here I deal with, but he's well respected and reputable and very active on HDD.

Yes, some people are simply greedy and when it comes to steelbooks, you want to deal with someone you can trust cause of the damage factor. Buyer beware tells me to avoid newbies for that reason alone. If JW is the only one doing the group buys etc, I would work with him, his pricing is fair. But specifically limiting it to only 1 member is just stupid.

I didn't say anything about a one member monopoly. I said trust is a factor here and will be taken into consideration. It's obviously something that is growing so it needs to be handled when it arises. We don't want an influx of people coming here to sell stuff, that's not what the trading area is for. I'm talking in general, not about anyone or anything specific.

I was reading a post from a guy who purchased 150 or so of some movie (don't remember what) and then he sold them, for a nifty profit (Figure adding $10, plus getting an extra $5 or so because of exchange rate, and maybe costing $2 to ship, so making $13 on EACH of the 150 he sold)

and then, the movie went on sale for $10 less than he paid for them ($35 steelbook on sale for $25 for instance) and he went back to the store, and price-adjusted with his receipt for all 150 copies, to pull in another $1,500, so he was actually bragging about the fact that his total "Haul" for the efforts, ended up being just shy of $3,000


Despite his boasting, I say "Good for him" If you want a steelbook of The Dark Knight, pick one up on Half.com or Ebay in a couple of months for $20 Prices always drop, and when a movie sells this many copies, the pre-owned market usually gets flooded......

If you can't wait for a movie, you pay a premium.... if people didn't want to pay $45 for a steelbook, these members wouldn't be putting in the effort to sell them

That's exactly what I mean. Recently someone was asked to leave for repeatedly setting up shop here after being told not to. It's a trading forum to get some stuff you want and unload stuff you don't, not a webstore.

It'll die over once everyone gets a hand on their copy of TDK SB. I don't believe in a Monopoly but I prefer to deal with JW on reputation alone.
