Default Holy crap man!! what a PQ!!

i picked up a samsung 56a650 DLP about 4 weeks ago now and its 1080p and all. so i was at CC today looking around and saw the samsung LCD 1080p tv's and holy crap do they blow me away. they had ironman playing and it looked so good it was like 3d looking. so i asked why my DLP does not look as good as this tv? the guy there said it was because the LCD and plasma tv's dont have to spread the image over a screen like RP DLP tv's?? i was like see my sig for what i got, everything is hooked up HDMI and my PQ still does not look nearly as life like as the one at the store.

granted my tv is not calibrated yet, but i would still think it would look close to what it did at CC today. so now i feel like the tv i just upgraded to is not as worth to display my BD movies. i just watched ironman the other day on my tv and it looked great, but the one at CC today was just mind blowing. i want that look.

can anyone help with any info or what or why this would be? is DLP technology just inferor to LCD and plasma? i mean i bought within my means to get 1080p and now i feel its not true to 1080p if it does not look that good? must mean i need to spend more to get better? kinda disappointed now

Yes LCD is a much better technology you should take your DLP back. The price will be a bit higher but the reward is very noticable

You pretty much answered your questions in your own post.

Calibrate, rinse and repeat if desired.

Also, I don't think anyone has ever accused DLPs of haing the 3d look - that's from 120hz.

Calibrate rinse? i know about calibration as i had my sony XBR1 done back when i bought that one. oh and yes it does make a big difference. but do you think it will make a big difference with my samsung DLP now? the problem is i dont have the extra to spend now on a calibration, so i may have to wait.

so 120hz is what makes the difference in these new tvs'/ i could have sworn my samsung 56A650 had that in it? not sure though. anyways thanks for all the input.

i wish i could return it now, but its been over 30 days and i bought it at BB. good thing is it was just on sale again for another $100 off, so i went to BB the other day and got my $100 and grinning

Have you tried / throught about calibrating on your own? You can pick up a DVD / Blu-ray for about the price of a normal movie and it could greatly improve your picture without you paying an arm and a leg for ISF calibration.

yes i have and i was going to pick up DVE blu ray on ebay for about $19.00 shipped. but i know from my sony being calibrated that there is alot more detail that the ISF calibrators get into that what the disc can do. i mean the ISF guy that did my set was at my house for 6 1/2 hours calibrating and he did an awesome job on my sony at tthe time. i have since sold the sony and upgraded to 1080p samsung. i mean it looks good, but not mindblowing at the store. i know they have them cranked up and i have been involved in HT for over 10 years now and know a few things, but still not caught up as some on here

They gave you the typical uninformed employee answer.

The reason it looks "3D" is because the samsung you saw was probably the 650,750 or 850 models which have the 120hz motion enhancer. The "3D" look is almost always associate to 120hz models.

I was waiting for someone to put in the correct reply... Besides, those stores tweak tv settings to sell what they need to sell...

Those lcd's are probably set at 120hz that gives that 3d look.

you'll spend alot of time with buyers remorse if you do that to yourself

i have seen a few dlp's that look very good, as was stated calibrate, calibrate, calibrate some more. although i own an lcd (old and not 120hz) after getting it to where it is now, i can't stand to even look at a store model, makes me wanna cry seeing how they have it calibrated and knowing what it COULD look like lol. my understanding is dlp allows you to go big without spending an arm and a leg, smart purchase imo. enjoy.
