Hi everybody,
Yesterday I was happy to recieve my Band of Brothers series in Blu Ray, but the joy didn't last so long when I tried to watch it in my laptop. I inserted disk 1 and the DB Rom drive recognized the disk with no problem, I opened HP QuickPlay player, I was only able to watch the FBI warning before the movie and the program just closes, I tried it with PowerDVD 8 and it froze saying that the program found a problem and it needs to close. Searching for an answer, I've read that PowerDVD 7.3 should fix the problem, I installed it, and the problem persists. I did all the updates and what not, finally, I was able to watch only disk 1 out of 6 of Band of Brothers, when I insert other disks, the problems are back. Now, as for the system specifications: HP Pavilion dv9843cl 4GB RAM Intel Core Duo T8100 @ 2.10 GHz 250GB in hard disk Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS 512mb Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A ATA Device Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium I don't think it's a hardware problem, because I can play my copy of "300" with no problem in any software, the problem is only with Band of Brothers. I don't own a stand-alone player, so I can't test the movie there. Can it be that Band of Brothers is a brand new title and it demands some kind of firmware upgrade? if it's that the case, I don't think so, because I can play disk 1. I hope you guys could help, it's so frustrating that I can't find any help, I really want to watch Band of Brothers, thanks! Last edited by reimon; 12-13-2008 at 02:52 PM. |

While I have never tried to play a Blu in a computer drive, there's not much to troubleshoot without trying to play the disc elsewhere. Heck, you might try to take it to a store like Best Buy, tell them you bought it there and you need to try it out to see if it works.
Otherwise I'd tell you to check for BIOS/driver/firmware updates for your machine if you haven't already. Am I reading your post correctly by assuming that disc 1 works and disc 2 does not? Have you tried the others? It's possible it could be just that disc. Good luck, and keep us updated. |

Hi reimon,
Even though I have a completely different setup from yours, I had the exact same problem with 'Band of Brothers' before on my XP MCE SP3 using the Radeon HD 4670. 1). ATI CAT 8.11 + PowerDVD 7.3 4407...No go 2). ATI CAT 8.11 + PowerDVD 7.3 4617...No go 3). ATI CAT 8.10 + PowerDVD 7.3 4407...Worked! So, in my case, the problem was the newest video card driver because I was using XP at that time. BTW, ArcSoft Total media Theatre played 'Band of Brothers' perfectly with CAT 8.10 also. |
