Dexter Fans.....*new book*

The new book Dexter by Design is released in the UK in February, but the USA doesn't get it until August of '09.

So I went to Amazon.co.uk and they have the hardcover on pre-order for 4.99UK (bout 7 bucks or so American).

I didn't read the books but I love the show. Are the books wrth reading despie seeing the show? I've read a few books after seeing the filmed adaptation and some are really good while others are almost exactly the same on book and film.

The books are great. There's some differences. The first season mirrors the first book about 90% of the time. The second and third seasons do not follow the books.

Also in the episode where Angel goes to visit the Vice cop he's dating, the cop outside who says "she says you snore like a motherf------", is the writer of the Dexter books, Jeff Lindsay.

The best aspect of the books which are not in the show is....*NOTE: this is the end of the non-spoiler stuff*

Dexter "accidentally" proposes to Rita, who is excited to marry Dexter. Dexter, while reluctant, strongly considers marrying her because of an incident with her son, Cody. During a fishing trip, Dexter observed Cody carve into a fish with apparent glee. Subsequently, when a neighbor came to Rita's house to ask if anyone had seen her dog, Dexter notices that Cody leaves the room. Thus, Dexter concludes that Cody witnessing the violence in his house as a child, when his biological father Paul beat and raped his mother, may have experienced the same effect as Dexter's witnessing his mother's murder. Thus, the novel leaves the impression that Dexter will train Cody and his older sister/partner in crime Astor in "The Code Of Harry", in order to allow them to operate in society, but still be able to satisfy their impulses.

The story also concerns the training of Cody and Astor Bennett, Dexter's soon-to-be stepchildren. Traumatized by their abusive father, Cody and Astor have developed homicidal tendencies similar to Dexter's. Dexter intends to teach them the "Code of Harry," which taught Dexter to hide his dark nature and blend in with normal people.

I know amazon has the "low price guarantee" but I wonder if I buy it at 4.99 and the price raises to, say, 6.99, will I still be charged the 4.99?

The books are amazing I have only read what would have been season 1 "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" there are very huge changes in the show from the book especially character wise. But the general concept is the same. Very good reads if you like the show you should like the books more, they go more into the psyche of Dexter than the shows can provide to you.

Well the way it was described to me was that if I pay 4.99 on-pre-order and then they LOWER the price, then I pay the lower price.

But if they RAISE the price, hopefully I still pay the lower price.
