Default Onkyo 606 vs. 706

Hi all. I'm a new member here, in fact I'm new to Blu. Thank you Santa!

Anyways, I'm thinking about doing my first home theater in a year or so and have started doing research (even though I'm sure products will be much different in a year, I figured this wouldn't hurt to find resources...this site is GREAT). I've seen that many people love the Onkyo 606. It seems to be a great value at about $350 (amazon). My question is: who here has the 706? The only noticeable differences I saw on Onkyo's site are that the 706 has 1080p upscaling (instead of 1080i for the 606) and is Sirius ready. Neither of these is a big concern for me, so would the 706 be worth the extra $200? I just don't see justification here...

You can get the 606 cheaper elsewhere as can you the 706. If price wasn't an issue, I'd get the 706 but you can also look into other receivers that may be even better at the same price point as the 706. Choices, choices, choices!

Since my own theater is a year (or more away), I'm trying to use this current research to help my parents. They just bought a new 52" Sony LCD and a Panasonic BD35 and love it. The only thing is their receiver is about 4 years old and doesn't support HDMI or HD audio. So I'm trying to convince them to get a new receiver.

Not sure what price point they would look at, but the cheaper the better (probably $400 or less). They're by no means audio or videophiles. I have a feeling the 606 would suit them just fine, but what others at these price points? It seems like Denon and Yamaha are the other two popular choices on the forum, brand-wise.

Very nice! Even with $30 shipping it's $20 cheaper than amazon. Thanks
