Default Blu-ray disc space and scratches

When a disc is encoded in VC-1 for Hd dvd and the same encoding is used on the blu-ray such as for Swordfish, Unforgiven and Lethal Weapon, is there any difference in the picture or are the exact same specs used for both?
Also for those who own both formats, have you had any durability/scratching problems with HD DVD vs Blu-ray?

Yes it's the same. The BD then is really like a 30GB HD DVD encased (ported) inside a 50GB (or 25GB) BD disc in a sense.

None of my hundred plus BDs is scratched. I haven't tried to scratch them, but a couple that came loose on the case (cases fell hard from the big pile!) looked pristine when I checked them.

Default For those of you who own both BR and HD-DVD: scratches?

For those of you who own both formats, do you find that one disk resists scratches more than another?

I've read all of the PR from both sides on this, so please don't regurgitate the PR material here.

Only respond if you have experienced how easy/hard the disks scratch -- personally, and truthfully.

Thanks.

I have not seen scratches on either my HD or Blu-ray disc. I keep them in their cases and I'm fairly careful. All of my DVDs are in several CD cases and have been scratched from time to time. Since I have only a few high def movies so far, and their cases are much smaller, I haven't had the need to put them in a CD case yet and therefore can't test their duarability in that sense.

Blu-ray's hard coating is far more durable than the coating used for DVD or HD DVD. DVD/HD can get mild surfact scratches just from simple cleaning. I've practically scrubbed several BDs with a clean cloth and couldn't put a mark on them. The only downside to BD is that since the recorded membrane is so close to the surface, a deep scratch can do more damage. But, such deep scratches practically require and effort, a very bad accident, or basically something significant enough that you'd expect it to render the disc useless. I've also had several arrive lose in the case from broken spindles without a scratch. The two discs I've rented were both scratch free despite being rented months after release. And the guy I bought the panasonic from even did a juggling routine with the free copy of eight below that came with the player, catching it on his jeans. But didn't leave a scratch on it. My copy of Resistence is a little scuffed up from inserting it into the PS3 so much. But those come right off.

The other thing to consider is this. Since the reflective layer is closer to the top of the read layer, basically BDs can get dented at the marked layer (where the four-color offset printing are made on) and it won't have any effect, IF the dent is not deep enough to affect the reflective layer.
