Sony XBR4 here as well. Sony calls it "Motion Enhancer" in the Video Settings and I leave it on the "Standard" setting most of the time. Occasionally "Off" and, on occasion, more often with DVD content, I may flick it to "High" for that sort-of live video look, but that is getting more and more rare.
It is without a doubt that running the "Motion Enhancer" or "Auto Motion Plus" (or other frame image interpolation software, depending on the brand of TV) remarkably smoothens motion, but I have yet to see a system which doesn't introduce artificating - sometimes frequently so - even on current TVs. It's a tough tradeoff. Certainly, the technology needs some further improvement. |
