Unhappy Scratches

I have these crazy kids, I read some where that the blue rays are going to have this new coating that makes the disc less scratchable. I went out and bought a blue ray player and 3 kids movies. One of the movies got thrown on the floor kind of like a frisbee. Its got a few lite scratches and it skips all over the place. Anybody knows what up?-jamee

did you try cleaning it off? not with a brilo pad or scotch-brite type of cleaning product..but, a micro-fiber one? that usually works...also, don't play frisbee with a blu-ray, try a Wham-oo type...a lot cheaper..

This brings back memories of when my two were younger and dvd movies cost what Blu does now. My kids didn't get to handle movies for a long time.

Not sure I buy this.

The torture tests that have been shown in videos all over the net contradict what you are saying. Thrown like a Frisbee = no scratches. Used as a snowboard, that's a different story.

Second, don't let your kids man handle the movies like that. If they are that young to not know any better, they shouldn't be handling them to begin with.

I have four insane nieces.

When you deepen your voice (not even yelling) they seem to listen more.

In other words, you have to sound like Bea Arthur to get them to behave?

My 6 year old has never once messed one of my movies up. He was taught if he wants to use my PS3 to play his games, or watch his movies, when he takes something out of the machine, it goes back in it's case. Simple as that. First time I ever catch him not doing it he KNOWS he won't use it again for a loooong time. So far over a year and never once did he leave a disk out. Now putting the cases back in the cabinet or the manuals.... that's another story! But I don't care if there's a case lying around or a manual sitting on top of a speaker, at least the disk itself is in good condition.

agreed. My kids dont touch the dvd and BD unless they handle them properly. Kids are easy to teach, you show them, you explain why and then shout at them real loud if they do it wrong..

I've noticed problems such as scratches and goop on disc with some Netflix rentals. It makes me wonder if I should be keeping a bottle of Purell next to my home theater to use after handling these discs. I've had at least 3 Netflix discs recently that have had scratches and skipped during playback on my system. Cleaning them has been no help with fixing any skipping problems. Fortunately no one handles my BD collection but me.

+1 "Gawd will get you for that, Walter." (Bea Arthur as Maude / Maude)

The hard coat works, and it works under conditions that render a DVD or CD useless. Frisbee throwing won't damage it unless someone accidently stepped on and slid it across the floor under pressure.

The coating is NOT fool proof. It is intended to protect againt the average moron, not a complete moron.
