Default Sony BDP-BX1 DOES decode Dolby-TrueHD
This should put the rumors to rest... Right off of the Sony Website it says:

Does the Blu-ray Disc® (BD) player support high-definition audio formats?
Solution

The BD player is capable of Dolby Digital® Plus and Dolby® TrueHD decoding. The HDMI® jack outputs bitstream signals from Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, and DTS-HD Master Audio sources.

So the Costco version is basically a carbon copy of the S350 but with a backlit remote and hdmi cable.
