Default Onkyo TX-SR606 Reviews

I'm still looking to buy a new receiver and was wondering if anyone had purchased the new Onkyo 606 yet. It's up for sale at Amazon and I believe Circuit City and Crutchfield as well. If anyone has it I would appreciate some user reviews. Thanks,

Bone

One angry user gave it a 2/10. Other than that, nothing yet.

From the review I understood that the reviewer was trying to upscale an HDMI input (which you can't do on any receiver that I know of). It sounds to me like the guy didn't know much about how to set up a receiver, so I can't really trust that review.

Yea, there is a lot of confusion over this. Upscaling vs. upconverting. One takes analog signals and puts them out over HDMI the other takes a 480 signal and outputs it at 720 or 1080. Hell I can't remember which is which.. So many use them interchangeably... The buyer just thought they were getting a feature they weren't and was disappointed.

yeah, you always have to read the bad ones. I bought some shoes recently online, and a few reviews were bad. Ends up they were people that bought the wrong damn size.

j&r has it for $450 w/ free shipping, but they're out of stock. i've narrowed it down to the 606 and the sony dg820. waiting for the sony to come out before i make my purchase. hopefully some reviews will be made before then.

I bought the onkyo txsr606 and LOVE it. The only thing I don't like, is figuring out how to receive uncompressed audio. I bought mine from HH Gregg and got a good deal through a friend.

I'd wait until the price is right. The price was $360 a couple of weeks ago. I really want this receiver.

Absolutely one of the best entry-level A/V receivers you can buy in my opinion. I'm extremely happy with it and would highly recommend it to anyone.

got it for my bedroom, love the sound it puts out and its also great for non hd stuff...

love it

I had a little trouble getting the settings right as I've never had to set up any receiver we've had b4(usually the guy from our audio store does it). But it's very easy to use
!

got mine for 299 reconditioned from accesories4less, the condition it came was brand spanking new and so far I'm very happy with it. I didn't know that the receiver would not upscale hdmi sources either which I thought it was a given ....oh! well!! So! I guess the 906 model which incorporates the radon realta processor can't up-convert hdmi sources either. For some reason both my ps3 and dvd changer picture quality looks better and sharper through the receiver than plugged directly to my hdtv......don't know why since it's not up-converting but all I know that it does.
