Default Upgraditis

Ahh yes, the infamous ailment of all us audio junkies... I'm suffering from upgraditis in both of my audio setups!

HT: I want a new (bigger/plasma) TV but I will wait til the new Panny's come out for this upgrade.

Stereo: Well, I'm not sure what I want to add/change but I want something! Probably a better CD player first (or a changer maybe) but I want everyone's suggestions on OTHER things to upgrade

Stereo Setup:

Onkyo 8555 Stereo Receiver (Acting as pre-amp)
Vuum VTi-B1 Vacuum Tube Amplifier (Acting as power-amp)
-Just added NOS tubes
B&W 601 bookshelf speakers
Onkyo DVD Player (functioning as CD player until I find a better one)
BlueJeansCable speaker cables, Monster reference interconnects (lol... don't flame me, it's better than cheap stuff and I get an employee discount, plus I'm impatient and didn't want to wait for another BJC order)

I want to upgrade as well. Looking at the Paradigm Studio 100's, matching center, and rears. I don't know if its worth all the dough though. Any opinions? I am more than happy with my receiver, amp, and television.

Buy a vacuum tupe pre-amp or vacuum tube CD player.

Pre-Amp:

http://www.pacificvalve.us/MingDAMC7R.html, $499

or

http://www.pacificvalve.us/MingDAMC6R.html, $355

CD Player:

http://www.pacificvalve.us/BDHD19.html, $399

or

http://www.pacificvalve.us/MHZSCD33.html, $499

or

http://www.pacificvalve.us/BDHD22.html, $599

After this, you can buy a pair of PSB Platinum T6 or Imagine Tower speakers.

I didn't notice a Power Conditioner in your sig.......that might be a consideration. It's a small price to pay for equipment protection. Just don't go buy one and think you'll get better PQ/AQ as some have suggested. You might or might not. Buy one for piece of mind.

Lol... I plan to when I have a place of my own (ie. I get authority over every room) but on the projector note, I just went shopping with my friend today to replace some of his speakers and I think my upgraditis has been put on hold. He was using a QUEST center channel, ooooold Pioneer towers, and Klipsch computer speakers for the rears and we went all over town and auditioned everything in his price range (up to $2000, he gets futureshop and bestbuy discounts) and he ended up taking the Klipsch RF-62 system home, far more suiting to his Panasonic projector and 72" screen

You might consider upgrading instead of a biger TV go to a front projector as a big TV is often the same price range; remember what the ladies say, "size matters"

To me the I would also consider upgrading speakers the main and center to match. Speakers are very personal but I really like Canton speakers. I think upgrading to better quality brands not the more budget brands you find at Best Buy or Circuit City would make a big difference. Then I would look into going to something like the Outlaw Audio 997 surround sound preamp no powered and getting their 7 channel power amp or something similar.

Worth it? Heck yes. As long as you have the room to properly set them up. Unfortunately, I didn't. They need a good amount of room behind them.

If you do bump up to those Paradigm Studios, I would suggest looking for something else to power them. Keep your Onkyo but use separate amps.

I would recommend picking up a good musical sub to compliment the bottom end for those 601s (great bookshelfs by the way!). I'm not talking about an earth shaking ED or AVS sub, but something more musical like one from Velodyne, Paradigm, or Outlaw Audio.

That looks like a weak link in your current setup. I would get a nice universal player that handles all the audiophile formats. A cheap solution might be from this company:

This is also a good price on a Universal player (other than Blu-ray of course ).
