Guys,
I bought last year Panasonic SC-PT560 5.1 home theatre with a built-in wireless module for surround speakers. Now I'd like to add a blu-ray player without changing my home theatre. I've got 2 possible solutions and I'm wondering if they're OK. 1) buy PS3 with blu-ray capabilities and add it to my home theater via hdmi cable. also I need an optical cable between PS3 and home theater to get surround. am I able to use a blu-ray without limitations with this configuration ? 2) buy a blu-ray player. Can I add it to my existing home theatre ? How can I do that to get video and surround ? any better suggestions than what I've listed above ? Thanks, Joseph Last edited by tigermanIT; 02-11-2009 at 06:56 PM. |

Joseph-
Do you have an optical input on your Panny DVD upconverter? If there is, then yes, you could do that. Same method would apply here. Stand-alones have an optical out in addition to the HDMI so you could run it the same way to get surround. For a more satisfactory experience, I'd recommend a receiver to you in addition to a blu-ray player. There are a handful available for relatively little, $300 in some cases. |

I couldn't find all of the information on the panny website for the surround system you have, but it appears that any Blu Ray player will work. Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to get any of the advanced codecs (truhd/dts hdma) unless your system accepts multi channel PCM. I couldn't find a for sure "yes" answer to that one.

The big limitation is that only Dolby Digital and PCM can be played with my panny optical (so neither DTS that is a standard with blu-ray).
But at the end of the day Blu-ray and DD with wireless surround is no so bad... |
