LG® LH-T734 500W 1080i Upconversion Home Theater System
Listed above is my home theater system. I have my ps3 hooked up to my tv with an hmdi cable. I have my reveiver hooked up to my tv through an hdmi cable too. How do I get the sound from my ps3 to play through the receiver/speakers? (I have also gone into my ps3 and changed the sound setting to dolby digital 5.1) Help please!! haha |

So I just need to get an optical cable to connect the two then I should be ok? Do I keep the other hdmi cables where they are?

I have to get a chance to look up your model, but if your Receiver has an HDMI in, and an HDMI out.... then run one HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver's "in" and one from the receivers "out" to the T.V. The hdmi will carry video and sound from PS3>Receiver, and the other will carry the video from receiver>t.v.
if you don't have one in, one out, on the receiver, then it's just HDMI from PS3 to t.v. and Optical from PS3 to receiver.... and you'll only use one HDMI. |

That sounds good to me! I will have to get an optical cable because my receiver only has one hmdi hookup

I would add an HDMI switch, such as this one from Monoprice:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 For just a little over $30, you can give your receiver 4 HDMI inputs and avoid the need for an optical cable. Last edited by Fiveft20in; 07-18-2008 at 03:07 PM. |

His only options to get standard DD and DTS from the his receiver are the optical input. Set the ps3 to bitstream and you'll get the core DTS and standard 640 kbps Dolby digital. |

yep...
sorry been in meetings all day... never got around to looking up his unit. Go HDMI from PS3 to T.V. for picture, and optical from PS3 to Receiver for sound (that's right guys? He won't even want to run HDMI out on his receiver, because he'd be downgrading the Picture if he ran anything other than HDMI to the receiver as an "in" ) |
