Default Blade Runner help question.

Hey everyone thanks so much for helping me out here. I honestly hope this question is as dumb as it sounds cause it's driving me nuts. I just picked up a copy of Blade Runner and sat down to disc 1 the final cut. I went to put on the Dolby TrueHD track and i can't find it!!! Now before you slam me i'm not a blu rookie i have the set up for everything to work. Ps3 into a Onkyo 606 and everything is working fine. The menu screen on the movie doesn't show any set up options and when i start the movie and hit the audio button on my PS3 remote i get English 1 (Dolby 640) and English 2 the commentary track. No TrueHD and no French 5.1 like it says on the box. I hit the pop up menu during the film and don't see any option for audio setup. Am i just really that dumb and missing the set up or is something wrong? Again i'm not a rookie here i have the HDMI all set up with the linear PCM setting and have been enjoying the lossless audio on my Onkyo for almost a year now. Thanks again!!!

Hmm that is strange...for me it defaults to Dolby TrueHD, and it says that on my tv...perhaps it is a defect?

Are you just hitting the select/info button and seeing 640? Hit the pop up menu, the selection for TrueHD should be there. If you select it and it's still playing DD 640, make sure your audio output setting is on PCM.

Yea it's set to PCM i'm watching Band of Brothers right now and it's playing at DTS-MA . Also to make sure i wasn't crazy i put in Dark Knight, that i knew was in TrueHD, and saw it was working fine. I used the "select" button on my ps3 to make sure the right track was set. That's how i found the problem initially. I'm thinking i got a bad disc and i will call Amazon for an exchange. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something. I would hate to exchange and have the same thing happen cause i was dumb. Thanks again guys!!!

A single copy wouldn't just be missing an audio track. If that were the case, an entire run of discs would have the same problem. It's there, somewhere.

The other thing I can think of is that it's the wrong version of the film. The Final Cut I believe is the only version with TrueHD.

well only disc 1 is supposed to have a True HD track. The pop up menu has an option for "Languages" in which my only option is English and then it has subtitle options after that. No mention of audio options at all. Then "Scene Selections" and "Special Features". The special features is a Behind the Story with an introduction by Ridley Scott and a commentary option. Then a box telling me to visit Warner online.

Ok i just found the problem. I put the disc on again and it was running for a while. i noticed the pictures quality was really bad and not what i expected hearing it was remastered and everything. Anyway i hit the commentary track and sure enough they are talking how this is the "workprint" edition!!! That is what disc 5 is supposed to be. Sure enough it's identical to my disc 5. I feel much better now. I really thought i was totally losing it. Stinks i have to wait for an exchange but o well. Thanks Again guys

First one is labeled Disc 1 Final Cut but is an identical copy of Disc 5. Funny Huh?

Just curious, did you get the fat case version or the new version that is about the same size as a standard case? If I remember right, they had this problem when the set was first released in December of '07, but I thought they'd gotten it all sorted out.

Yea i was just reading that online. But the issue seemed to be two disc ones. Warner's test was to see if you had a TrueHD track on disc 5. Mine is the newer one that looks identical to a normal blu-ray case.

I think that I have the same issue! I just received my Blade Runner 5 disc BD copy today (ordered from Amazon), and the PQ is HORRIBLE! The Final Cut disc appears to be the exact quality as the workprint disc along with menu options, only difference is that they're labeled different.

Did you return your copy to Amazon? Did they send you a good copy?

Bummer guys... Sounds like a defect for sure.

I checked mine last night and it clearly goes to the right sound when I put it in my PS3.

I had the same issue as well, posted it in the replacement disc thread. I FINALLY got my replacement disc from WB, it took me 3 weeks of sending emails through their CS site and leaving messages on the answering machine for the replacement disc line. During the long period of no reply from WB about the replacement, I also had Amazon do an exchange for me, in which I received the same defected copy.

Good news is that the replacement disc sent out by WB was the correct version, and with a letter explaining the mistake on the wrong disc. Just keep hounding them to make sure they get you request for the replacement.

I returned my defective copy to Amazon yesterday, but after reading your post I have a feeling I may get another bad copy.
