Post Panasonic SC-PT760

Is the Panasonic SC-PT760 a good option for a HTiB? Could I not use the five-disc DVD changer and just replace it with my PS3?

I'd say skip that system. Its a total waste of money in my opinion. I'm not sure what your budget is, but here's a few options: either THIS or THIS receiver and THESE speakers for a small budget system under $400. Keep in mind that those speakers are 6 ohms so you will need to make sure you set the receiver to 6 ohm mode. If you can up your budget a little more look at THESE speakers.

So the 463 you recommended will play HD & HD-MA with the PS3 as the player (with the right hookups, of course)?

Yes, it will send uncompressed sound over HDMI when using the PS3. I'm considering getting one of those two receivers myself to redo my bedroom setup. The PS3 decodes True HD and DTS Master Audio and will send it over HDMI.
