If you are into museums but would like something off the beaten track The John Soane's Museum is very cool indeed.

Look no further than the The North Sea Fish Restaurant for your fish and chips.

Somewhere to sate your GF's Harry Potter appetite.

Catch a live band at the Forum.

Okay, I have been to London many times.
Idk if you are into museums or not, but the British Museum is a great place to see...of course I've been to NY's Metropolitan museum 4-5 times so British Museum wasn't very different.

You HAVE to go to Picadilly Circus. It is where the young people are at and the pop culture center of the city (to some extent).

You definitely wanna check out Harrods. Might not be able to afford anything in there, but it is a MUST see in London.

Definitely check out the Dominion theatre which is located at the end of Oxford Circus (make sure you do all your shopping at Oxford...great sales and usually where people shop at).

Buckingham palace is another MUST see that should be high up on your list...for obvious reasons.

Of course there are the usual Big Ben, London Eye (the ferris wheel)...so check both out. I have been on the Eye once, but if you have to go. Other than that, the queue is ridiculously long and it isn't cheap either.

You also want to check out London Bridge and also Tower of London which are very close to each other and if you keep going past the Tower of London, you will get to the business center of London...I definitely recommend walking in those areas to see the corporate life of the British in London.

As far as food. There are some great food places to eat, but ones that I keep going back to...actually I always eat at different places BUT...there is this amazing Doner kabob place in front of the Dominion theatre. I have eaten there 2-3 times each time I visit London.

Make sure you check out Hyde park as well. It is huge and just plain beautiful!

And don't forget the Tube (subway).

I'm not sure when the Premier League Season (soccer) actually starts, but do yourself a favor and try to catch a game if you can. The resident soccer gurus will know better than I, but I beleive there are 6 pro teams based out of London with ARSENAL and CHELSEA being the most well-known. It is an expereince you will never forget.

You must go see the Tower of London, there is a grim fascination about it, or so I have heard, I don't really know cause when I was there to see it, the entry fee drove me away

You said it John! It would be cool if you can get to a match KingBing. Season starts in August.

Also check out Madame Tussauds! www.madametussauds.com/London/ its great fun!

You cant go to London and not see a show in the West End!!! I would recommend Les Miserables. A personal favourite

Plenty of clubs and bars in the centre of town too.

The open top bus tours are a great way of seeing the city. There are stops on the route at all the tourist spots so you can hop on and hop off as you please.

As mentioned the London Eye is impressive (book in advance!!!!!!!!!)

Also the Tate Modern museum - if you are in to that kinda thing.

If you are at all a literary type, I definitely recommend seeing a performance at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, an exact duplicate of the original Globe where Shakespeare's plays were performed. A very unique experience.

+1 on the Tower of London.

Doesn't matter. You'll be treated like one anyway. London is not a friendly place. Probably similar to most eastern US cities.

If you like real cask conditioned ales, get the Good Pub Guide before you go from the Campaign for Real Ale. We took our off-the-beaten path London vacation 8 or 9 years ago and had a blast. We spent our time visiting breweries and good pubs.

Hampton Court Palace is a very interesting place to visit too, as is the Imperial War Museum.

And if you feeling adventurous and care to venture to the wilds of SE London, you could go to the Chiselhurst Caves, always a childhood favorite of mine.

Get a hamburger, you'll be shocked by how it looks.

[Show spoiler]There's no bun! I had to buy a roll to put it in so I could eat it. Plus it was greasy as hell.
But then again, I was in Scotland when I did that.
