Default acoustic panels, where to start?

I'd like to fit my room up with some panals to remove that annoying echo sound I keep hearing. I just need alittle advice on where to start.

I was checking out these acoustic panels on ebay and they seem to be pretty good. There are 24 titles in that set. Would that be enough for a small room?

Would this eliminate the echo sound I keep hearing?

From Big Daddy to me, now to you:

Parts Express sells good quality material made by Cascade Audio at bargain prices. There are many other companies, but their prices are crazy.

Wall Panels (they come in different colors and 2" or 3" thickness, check bothe pages):

Acoustic Tiles:

Corner Traps:

Use 3m Adhesive for installation(also available at Home Depot/Wal-Mart):

Need some info ??? Go through this, there is much helpful info for your benefit.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=61681

Do some research and planning though or you will be wasting your hard earned money and time. The tools and instruction are there. Some treatments out there will not really help and are not effective. To find out how avoid that there is plenty of info in the first post and post #10 for you to use and even budget friendly DIY stuff.

I fixed the links. I believe he must must have used copy and paste. When you do it that way, the links do not get copied. You have to go to the edit mode to copy them.

for under $100 I built four 2' x 4' sound panels.

The hardest and most expensive part was tracking down the sheets of roxul mineral wool. A building supply company in my town ended up selling me some.

They are extremely easy to build and you really don't need a lot of tools. Home Depot for the wood or mdf, and Wal-Mart for the material ($1 a yard) and batting.

Staple gun, drill, screws and I think you're set.

I have 6 of these in my listening room. Four are 24x40 and two are 24x24. I was open minded about them, but also skeptical. After I had them up I can't tell you how much of a BIG difference they have made in acoustics. In total I have only $200.00 invested and that includes shipping. Here's some links...

You can see what they look like in my room by checking out my gallery. (Fair warning, I'm not the best photographer).

Let us know what you decide to do.

wouldnt go with ebay foam myself, ANY treatment will make the room sound good, but cheap foam will discolour and degrade very fast, so wont look good for very long.

all the major acoustic panel makers offer a basic free service to try and and get you to buy their products

what are you talking about ? ... i had 4" foam in a room for years. when i took it down, it looked like new. but it was not exposed to direct sunlight = will degrade it fast.

the foam is only good for highs. i have found that the "firm" type drop ceiling panels work pretty well, and are cheap.

Nice site.... ORDERED.

Now... question. I got various sizes etc... but how would you guys recommend hanging this type of foam... I was thinking either Spray-Adhesive (not my first choice) or buying packs of velcro.... but will the adhesive hold the foam, or will it just peel off because it's porous on the back ???

How would you guys hang this type of foam? Framing it all is out of the question (I got most of it in 12" x 12" panels..... and probably have over 100 of them on the way..... )

Thanks.

Use good quality 3M spray adhesive. It's what I use.

I used the cheap walmart adhesive at first and they would fall off daily. But once I started using 3M, they stayed on for months.

great! thanks..... I might put some black velvet around it for a border.... or use speaker-cloth to cover them etc.... since they're "Charcoal" and I'd prefer them to be a darker BLACK.... as to not reflect any light..... I know spray painting them would probably negate some of their absorbing properties......

I've been very pleased with the ones I got from www.atsacoustics.com.

They were reasonably priced and helped with the echo in my room after we did tile flooring (see HT pics).

Again I'm no expert, but like I said I can definitely notice a different with the 10 panels I ended up getting.

I made my own by using acoustical ceiling tiles and covering them in batting and fabric. They may not be quite as effective as some commercially available items... but they are more attractive (IMO) and the cost/benefit ratio just can't be beat. I made a dozen 2' X 4' panels for just a hair over $50.

I guess my only issue with the site Naturephoto provided was the fact that you have to commit to the $13 for shipping if you want to give their product a try..... I wanted to get them in my hands and compare them to other products available..... but in the end I just threw caution to the wind and ordered enough for free shipping (actually 3 times the amount necessary for free shipping, but in any case.... I'll make due with them, and upgrade in the future if I feel the need)
